Welsh Outdoor Championships at Swansea and Cardiff... plus track, mountain and road races (11th June - 29th June Round Up)

The month of June saw Welsh Athletics stage both its Outdoor Age Group Championships, from under 13 to seniors. The latest weekend saw Cardiff International Sports Stadium host the Senior & U17 championships in the Welsh Capital.

Elsewhere, there were a number of other races for athletes representing club and school - in Ammanford, Swansea, Lampeter, Barry, Cardigan, Exeter, Carmarthen, Nantgaredig, Cardiff and Tenby and internationally out in Slovakia.

Below are the Carmarthen Harriers club results from events held over the last fortnight between June 11th and June 29th.

Ammanford Junior Fun Run - Ammanford (Wednesday 11th June)

Local running club, Amman Valley Harriers organised its annual Junior Fun Run at the Recreation Ground on the evening of Wednesday 11th June.

There were podium places for Alfie Stopher (Year 5 and 6 boys), Haf Thomas (Year 5 and 6 girls), Dylan Williams (Year 7 and 8 boys) and Teaghan Williams (Year 7 and 8 girls).

 

 

Paul Popham 5K & Junior 1K Summer Series - Swansea Bay (Wednesday 11th June)

On the same evening, Luke Owen (21:25) and Libby Owen (34:00) attended the second Popham Running Club Swansea Bay 5K Summer Series next to the Bay.

 

Welsh Athletics U13, U15 & U20 Track & Field Championships 2025 - Swansea University Athletics Track (Saturday 14th June - Sunday 15th June)

The under 13, under 15 and under 20 championships kick started the championship season over two-days as more than 500 athletes headed to Swansea Bay Sports Park.

WMRA U18 Mountain Running Championships 2025 - Slovakia (Saturday 14th June)

Under 17 member Amelia Williams travelled over to Slovakia to represent Wales at the WMRA U18 Mountain Running Championships on Saturday 14th June.

The girls' quartet placed ninth in the team standings with Amelia finishing twelfth overall (37:23) in the 5.8 km race, with a total elevation gain of 513 meters. 

 

 

Barry Island 10K Future Challengers - Barry Island (Sunday 15th June)

The Barry Island 10K was back in the calendar, which included a Future Challengers Race for younger runners. Haf Thomas crossed the finish line as the second under 11 girl in a time of 6 minutes 48 seconds.

 

Langwood Trail Junior Race - Race 3 - Lampeter (Wednesday 18th June)

Event 3 of the midweek Red Kite Summer Trail Series took place in Ceredigion on Wednesday at Lampeter Rugby Club.

Gethin Thomas and Tayla Williams participated at the Longwood Trail junior race at Lampeter Rugby Club in the final race of the series.

 

Ras Y Castell - Cardigan Castle (Friday 20th June)

Lee Ladd and Huw Davies were at Cardigan Castle on Friday evening for the new 8km and 14km Ras Y Castell event, organised by Cardigan Running Club.

 

 

British Milers Club Regional Races - Exeter (Tuesday 24th June)

Jessica Hyland made the long trip down to Exeter on Tuesday evening for the latest British Milers Club races and was rewarded with a new personal best of 2:17.76 over the 800 metres.

 

Dyfed Secondary Schools NASUWT Cup & Plate Final - Carmarthen Athletics Track (Thursday 26th June)

Three weeks after the Dyfed Schools Athletics Championships was held over two-days in Carmarthen, the schools’ athletics season continued with the Dyfed Schools NASUWT Cup & Plate Final, also staged in Johnstown.

The four areas within the district - Brianne, Pembrokeshire, Llanelli and Ceredigion - held their qualifying fixtures in Carmarthen and Tregaron. 

A total of 32 teams from 17 schools featured on the day in the under 14 and under 16 age categories, over 13 different track and field disciplines.

Pupils from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, Haverfordwest High, Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, Ysgol Penweddig, Ysgol Caer Elen, Queen Elizabeth High School and Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth will compete at the Welsh Secondary Schools National Finals, at Penlan Arena in Brecon on Wednesday 9th July.

All eight Welsh districts - Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff & Vale, Dyfed, Eryri, Glamorgan Valleys, North East Wales, Powys and South East Wales will be represented in this end-of-term annual fixture.

 

 

Nantgaredig 5K & Junior 1K Races - Nantgaredig Rugby Club (Friday 27th June)

The weekend began with the local Nantgaredig 5K & Children’s fun run races at the rugby club on Friday evening, 27th June.

Among those in the 5K were second-placed Josh Barnett (16:34), Jake Lynock (19:52), Oliver Horn (19:59), Huw Davies (20:00), Manon Phillips (20:03), Gethin Thomas (20:22), Liz Tremlett (20:30), Bethan Hampshire (24:43), Tayla Williams (29:16)

Younger members Llew Vaughan, Davy Richards, Raffety Jones, Thomas Burtenshaw, Bran Hampshire, Tyler Williams, Haf Thomas, Alys Tremlett also attended the annual Carmarthenshire event.

 

 

Welsh Athletics Senior & U17 Track & Field Championships 2025 - Cardiff International Sports Stadium (Saturday 28th June - Sunday 29th June)

The 107th edition Welsh Athletics Senior & Under 17 Track & Field Championships 2025 attracted over 600 athletes to the Welsh Capital, incorporating the British U23 trials. for an action-packed weekend of athletics. Two weeks after the U13, U15 & U20 championships, the latest weekend headed to the Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

Fifteen Carmarthen Harriers went to Leckwith to take part and won a total of seven medals.

Long Course Weekend 5K & 10K Run - Tenby (27th-29th June)

The 5K & 10K Run took place at the Long Course Weekend on Sunday 29th June in Tenby.

In the 5K, Luke Owen was 12th (21:23) and Emily Baker finished the third junior female (21:45). Libby Owen completed the 5K in 33:27.

There was third place finish in the overall standings for Finley Bruce in the 10K (33:59) and was followed by teammates Sion Rowlands in ninth (39:00) and Dewi Ifan (1:03.11)
