May Results Round-Up: Track & Field, Road and Mountain Running (3rd - 28th May)

In the latest round-up this month (May), there's been plenty going on for club athletes of all ages across track and field, road running and mountain running at club, regional and international level.

Below are the Carmarthen Harriers club results from events held between May 3rd and May 28th at Aberystwyth, Cardiff, Swansea, Carmarthen, Trap, Neath, Loughborough, Annecy, Manchester and America.

Ras Yr Hafod - Aberystwyth (Wednesday 3rd May)

In the second of three races in the series this summer, Ras Yr Hafod was held in Abersytwyth for the 5 mile and junior Trail Race on a sunny evening in Ceredigion on Wednesday 3rd May.

Welsh Athletics Run With The Wind & Throws 1 - Cardiff International Sports Stadium (Wednesday 10th May)

Exciting news to share from this event.

Storm Evans threw the (Discus) Commonwealth Youth Games Standard on Wednesday evening 10th May at the Welsh Athletics Run With The Wind & Field Event Specific, throwing out to 44.14m. That's been confirmed as a club senior women record too! Llongyfarchiadau Storm!

 

Swansea Bay 5K Summer Series - Swansea (Wednesday 10th May)

In the first of the summer series, Huw Davies completed the Swansea Bay 5K in a time of 20 minutes 30 seconds.

 

West Wales Regional Athletics Championships 2023 - Carmarthen Athletics Track (Sunday 14th May)

The West Wales Regional Athletics Championships was held at the home of Carmarthen Harriers, at the Leisure Centre Athletics Track in Johnstown.

It was open to athletes from the under 13, under 15, under 17, under 20 and senior age groups. Offering every track and field event on the day, there was another big turnout of 262 competitors from the region's clubs

Forty-two Carmarthen Harriers members took part in the championships at their home track.

Trap Show Charity Run 2023 - Trap (Sunday 14th May)

There was a good turnout at the Trap Show Charity Run on Sunday 14th May. There were top three placings for Steffan Davies and Huw Davies in the 4.7mile distance and Aeronwy Morgan-Fisher in the junior race.

 

 

Welsh Junior League 1 - West Wales Division - Cwrt Herbert Sports Centre, Neath (Sunday 21st May)

The Welsh Junior League returned in a new format across the West, South and East of Wales over the weekend of 20th and 21st May.

West Wales' division opening fixture was held at Cwrt Herbert Sports Centre in Neath on the second day of the weekend.

On what was a well attended and successful day, more than 200 athletes from seven clubs - Bridgend AC, Carmarthen Harriers, Llanelli AAC, Neath Harriers, Pembrokeshire Harriers, Swansea Harriers and TROTS - entered which offered every track and field event.

The junior league gives the opportunity for athletes in the younger age groups (under 11, under 13 and under 15) to get involved and the day concluded with the 4 x 100m relays which are always popular.

Twenty-seven athletes travelled to Neath, competing in the vests of Carmarthen Harriers. It was great to see so many members from the club making their competition debut here, the U11's and U13's in particular.

Loughborough International 2023 - Loughborough (Sunday 21st May)

Storm Evans was back in International action eleven days later, this time representing the Welsh Athletics team at the Loughborough International on Sunday 21st May.

Her best throw of 37.97m in the women's discus came in the sixth and final round.

 

Under 18 WMRA International Youth Cup Mountain Race - Annecy, France (Saturday 27th May)

Following the trial race at the Red Kite Challenge in Devil's Bridge four weeks ago, Carmarthen duo Iwan Thomas and Finley Bruce were selected to represent Wales at the Under 18 WMRA International Youth Cup Mountain Race.

The 2023 edition took place at Annecy in France which included a single 4.6km loop, climbing and descending 230m+ through forests and meadows.

With athletes from across the World participating, Thomas finished in 8th position overall followed by Bruce in 28th.

 

 

UK Youth Development League Midland South/West 1 - Carmarthen Athletics Track (Sunday 28th May)

Carmarthen Leisure Centre Athletics Track hosted its second Youth Development League fixture in three weeks. Following the lower age group hosted by Swansea Harriers on 7th May, last weekend saw West Wales host the upper age group match.

Under 17 and under 20 athletes were competing as part of the West Wales composite team on Bank Holiday Sunday 28th May in the second Youth Development League Midland Premier South/West 1 Division, run as a double-header.

England Athletics U20 Combined Events Championships 2023 - SportCity, Manchester (27th - 28th May)

In her first year as an under 20, Jessica Lee made the journey to Manchester for the two-day England Athletics U20 Combined Events Championships.

The heptathlon consisted of 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot and 200m on day 1, followed by the Long Jump, Javelin and 800m on the Sunday.

What a great weekend it turned out to be. With an overall PB total of 4729 points, she claimed joint bronze in the UK championships as well as gold in the U20 Welsh championship having picked up an equal PB in the high jump and 3 new personal bests along the way. These came in the 100m Hurdles, 200m and 800m, including two winning performances.

 

Meanwhile, Morgan Batten was competing out abroad at the Heart of America Outdoor Track & Field Championships, throwing a best of 57.84m in the javelin.
