Welsh Schools & Colleges Cross Country Championships Round-Up

A total of 19 Carmarthen Harriers members represented the Dyfed Schools Athletic Association at Brecon.

The midweek Welsh Schools & Colleges National Cross Country Championships was staged for the 63rd time in Powys.

It was one of Welsh Schools Athletic Associations’ major competitions of the winter season at Penlan Arena.

They were joined by another forty young runners from secondary schools and colleges across the Brianne, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Llanelli areas.

Competing at National school level for the first time in the year 7 races were Emily Baker, Cara Jenkins, Mared Rees and Macsen Davies.

Manon Phillips, Alex Ladd, Tomos Cai Davies and Dylan Williams were in action over the year 8 and 9 distances.

5 athletes lined up in the middle girls’ category, which featured Nansi Griffiths, Lily Morgan, Anna Jones, Miriam Williams and Phoebe Evans.

Representing the district in the Senior boys’ event were Sam Griffiths, Joshua Barnett and William Harries. Meanwhile, the trio of Skye Bruce, Macy Blue and Anastasia Eggleston-Stoker lined up in the senior girls’ race.

In the team event, the middle girls team won silver.

The Year 7 girls and junior girls age groups were in fifth position.

Welsh Schools will be represented at the SIAB Schools Cross Country International, which is being hosted on home turf in Bangor on March 21.

Teams from England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland will compete in the end-of-season fixture at Faenol Estate, featuring the mixed 4 x 1500m relay.

 

 

John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League - Fixture 5 - Parc Bryn Bach (Saturday 28th February)

The John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League ended in Tredegar on Saturday 28th February.

UK and England Athletics National Winter Long Throws Championships - Loughborough (Sunday 1st March)

On St David's Day, Filip Noga travelled to Loughborough University to compete in the under 16 boys' hammer. He came away with a bronze medal with a best throw of 52.50m.

 

British Athletics Cross Challenge Series, incorporating UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships - Wollaton Park, Nottingham (Saturday 7th March)

The final leg of the 2025/2026 British Athletics Cross Challenge took place at Wollaton Park in Nottingham on Saturday 7th March, which also incorporated the UK Inter Countries Cross Country Championships.

The athletes representing the West Wales Region in six of the age groups on the day were as follows:

Emily Baker (Under 13 Girls), Dylan Williams (Under 13 Boys), Manon Phillips (Under 15 Girls), Lily Morgan (Under 15 Girls), Nansi Griffiths (Under 17 Women), Iwan Thomas (Under 20 Men), Joshua Barnett (Under 20 Men), Ifan Bowen (Senior Men) and Sion Morgan Jones (Senior Men).
