British Athletics Cross Challenge Series Fixture 2 - Milton Keynes

Three athletes from Carmarthen Harriers made the journey from West Wales to Teardrop Lakes in Milton Keynes on Saturday 13th November for the second leg of the 2021 / 2022 British Athletics Cross Challenge Series #muddybrilliant featuring the best cross country athletes from across the whole of the United Kingdom.

The series began last month (October) at Cardiff's Llandaff Fields, which formed a part of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour (Gold Standard event).

The event returned to Milton Keynes ahead of upcoming events at Liverpool at the end of this month followed by trips to Belfast and Loughborough next year.

There were two excellent third-place finishes for William Coles and Iwan Thomas in the under 13 and under 15 boys' age groups respectively, whilst Steffan Davies lined up in the under 17 men's race.

Fixture two of the 2021 / 2022 John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League took place on a new course at Parc de Pugh in Brecon on Sunday 14th November.

A total of thirty two Carmarthen Harriers members took part in Mid Wales; twenty two of those athletes had also competed at the opening event in the Welsh Capital alongside the Cross Challenge in mid-October.

It featured a full programme of men, women and junior races and was open to runners of all ages (from 9 age in the novice right up to over 70 masters).

The course was flat and fast around the perimeter of the fields next to the rugby club, as distances varied from 1,350m for the novices up to 9,750m in the final event of the day for senior & master men.

The John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League is set to visit Carmarthenshire next, as the club will host fixture three of five at Pembrey Country Park in under three weeks time (Saturday 4th December, incorporating West Wales Cross Country Championships).
