Swansea host 2024 West Wales Regional Athletics Championships... plus cross country, trail and road races (8th May - 12th May Round Up)

The weekend of Saturday 11th May and Sunday 12th saw all four Welsh regions host their respective athletics championships across three venues in South, West and North Wales.

Elsewhere, there were trail, track and road races in Ceredigion, Birmingham and Trap whilst the Urdd's primary schools cross country event returned to Aberystwyth as part of the annual festival.

Below are the Carmarthen Harriers club results from events held between May 8th and May 12th.

Ras Yr Hafod - Pontrhydygroes (Wednesday 8th May)

Event two of three in the Red Kite Summer Series was held in Ceredigion on Wednesday 8th May with Ras Yr Hafod at Pontrhydygroes near Aberystwyth.

Da iawn to the four juniors taking part: Gethin Thomas (1st boy Yr 7-9), Paige-lily Williams (1st girl Yr 7-9), Emily Evans-Williams (4th girl Yr 7-9) and Tayla Williams (4th girl Yr 5-6)

 

 

Birchfield Harriers Midweek Open 1 - Alexander Stadium, Birmingham (Wednesday 8th May)

On the same evening, Iwan Thomas travelled to Birmingham for the first midweek open organised by local club Birchfield Harriers.

A new personal best of 5:57.90 was recorded in the five-lap 2000m Steeplechase.

 

Trawsgwlad Ysgolion Cynradd yr Urdd 2024 - Caeau Blaendolau, Aberystwyth (Dydd Sadwrn 11eg Mai)

Aeth cannoedd o blant cynradd i Gaeau Blaendolau yn Aberystwyth ar gyfer gŵyl chwaraeon flynyddol ysgolion cynradd Yr Urdd.

Prynhawn Dydd Sadwrn, cynhaliwyd y gystadleuaeth traws gwlad a oedd wedi gwerthu allan, yn agored i ddisgyblion blynyddoedd 3, 4, 5 a 6.

Da iawn i aelodau y clwb wnaeth cynrychioli eu ysgolion yn y digwyddiad.

West Wales Regional Athletics Championships 2024 - Swansea University Athletics Track (Sunday 12th May)

The weekend of Saturday 11th May and Sunday 12th saw all four Welsh regions host their respective athletics championships across three venues in South, West and North Wales- (Aberdare, Swansea and Deeside) 

The West Wales Regional Athletics Championships was held at Swansea University on Sunday.

It was open to athletes from the under 13, under 15, under 17, under 20 and senior age groups. Offering every track and field event (61 events), there was another big turnout of 258 competitors from the region's clubs, which incorporated the South & East Wales 1000m Walk and 1500m/2000m Steeplechase.

Thank you to all the club officials and volunteers who assisted on event day to ensure that the event was a success.

Forty-seven Carmarthen Harriers members took part in one of the major championships of the summer.

In total, forty-six medals were won throughout the day and numerous personal or season bests achieved as the athletes took advantage of local competition opportunities.

Tomos Cai Davies (800m - 2:19.40), Amelia Williams (3000m - 10:18.15) and Elli-May Williams (200m - 26.28) were confirmed as new championship best performances in 2024.

Trap Show Charity Run - Trap (Sunday 12th May)

There was a good turnout at the annual Carmarthenshire Trap Show Charity Run on Sunday 12th May. There were more success for Emily Evans-Williams who was the first girl home in the 2.8 mile junior race and year 5 and 6 girls winner as a result.
