Five Carmarthen Harriers youngsters represented the Welsh Schools Athletics Association in North Wales.
Four years on from the last fixture in Carmarthenshire (Pembrey Country Park), it was Wales’ turn to host the annual SIAB Schools Cross Country International. It took place 150-miles North at the picturesque Faenol Estate in Bangor.
Welsh Schools, English Schools, Irish Schools and Scottish Schools battled it out across six events.
Manon Phillips was the first to participate in the junior girls’ age group, covering a distance of 3,000m in 12:11.
The girls' team captain, Nansi Griffiths and Sali Owen competed in the intermediate girls’ race, recording 14:04 and 15:08 respectively. The Welsh team won bronze in the team event behind English Schools.
There was also success in the junior boys' category. Alex Ladd helped the team collect silver in 13:35.
Tomos Cai Davies was selected to run in the 4 x 1500m junior mixed relay team in the penultimate event of the day, clocking 4:51 in the second leg.
In the primary schools races that were incorporated into the international, Lydia Ladd crossed the line in 9:32.
Meanwhile, Carol Jones was one of the Welsh Schools team manager over the weekend.


The Welsh Schools Sportshall Athletics Final, one of the annual grassroots school fixtures in Wales, was staged at Cwmbran Sports Centre on Sunday.
Pupils in the under 13 (year 7 and 8) and under 15 (year 9 and 10) age groups competed, as it returned to the South East Wales based facility.
Dyfed Schools were one of three Welsh districts represented over thirty-six indoor sportshall events altogether.
Carmarthen Harriers members Anya Walters represented the Dyfed Schools’ Under 13 team, competing in the obstacle relay, 4 x 1 lap relay, 2 lap and speed bounce.
