Road Running Events return to West Wales, including Admiral Swansea Bay 10K & Welsh Athletics Road Relay Championships

September has seen the end of the 2022 Track & Field campaign, and the beginning of the Road Running season as several events returned to West Wales, including the Admiral Swansea Bay 10K, Welsh Athletics Road Relay Championships and Pembrokeshire Half Marathon & 10K over the past seven days.

Admiral Swansea Bay 10K: Nearly 3,000 runners of all ages and abilities participated at the Admiral Swansea Bay 1K, 3K & 10K races on Sunday 18th September.

Swansea Bay seafront, near St Helens Rugby Ground played host to a festival day of running as Admiral sponsored the Swansea Bay Races for the sixteenth consecutive year and staged by Swansea County Council.

The race took place along the beautiful and iconic sweep of Swansea Bay. Starting alongside St Helen's Rugby Ground, the first half of the course followed the road down to the picturesque Mumbles, before returning along the stunning Swansea promenade taking in its fast, flat surface and gorgeous scenery.

There were club representatives across all categories - the 1K, 3K & 10K.

Welsh Athletics Road Relay Championships 2022: For the fourth year, Welsh Athletics organised the Welsh Road Relay Championships for all age groups in West Wales at the fantastic Pembrey Country Park on Saturday 24th September. Previously these races have been held in Llandow Circuit Track and Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd.

The 54th running of the fixture returned to the National Closed Road Cycling Circuit and the surrounding parkland. Approximately 500 athletes and over 100 teams entered this year's road relay championships.

The event provided the chance for both established and up-and-coming endurance runners in Wales to compete in a competitive team format at the beginning of the autumn season. Races included a primary schools challenge, full junior programme, men's, women's and masters categories.

Well done to all the club members who took part on the day and thanks to the parents, coaches and team managers who also attended.

There were team victories for the Primary School boys and Under 17 men's A team, whilst the under 13 girls finished in bronze position. Tomos Cai Davies won individual gold too in the opening race of the morning.

In under three months' time, the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League Fixture 3 will head to Pembrey on 3th December, incorporating the West Wales Cross Country Championships.
