November Event Results Round-Up - athletes represent club, school, region and country

The second half of November saw club athletes of all ages represent the athletics club, Dyfed primary and secondary schools, West Wales region and Welsh Schools at cross country, road and indoor athletics in Carmarthenshire and further afield. Below are the results from events held between November 19th and 27th h at Monmouth, Llandeilo, Ammanford, Liverpool, Glasgow, Broad Haven and Llanybydder.

Welsh Inter Schools and Colleges Cross Country Championships / Welsh Inter Regional Cross Country Championships - Monmouth (Saturday 19th November)

Saturday 19th November saw pupils at Welsh secondary schools and colleges from all eight Welsh Districts - Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff & Vale, Dyfed, Eryri, Glamorgan Valleys, North East Wales, Powys and South East Wales travel to a new venue for the event - Monmouthshire Showground.

The 45th Welsh Inter Schools and Colleges Cross Country Championships and the 23rd edition of the Welsh Inter Regional Cross Country Championships combined into one fixture for the third time.

Regional vests were up for grabs as West Wales selected teams in each of the junior (U13-U20), senior and master age groups. In the individual and team competitions, there were seven individual and eleven team medals won altogether.

Two primary school races in conjunction with the Urdd were also held at the beginning of the programme for boys and girls in years 3,4,5 and 6.

34 club athletes made the long journey to represent the region, West Wales and/or their Dyfed secondary/primary school on Saturday at Monmouth.

Festival of Senses Llandeilo Santa 5K - Llandeilo (Sunday 20th November)

As part of Llandeilo's Festival of Senses three-day weekend, Sunday morning 20th November saw the Llandeilo Santa 5K take place up along the streets of the town.

Jake Lynock was the first home overall (20:07) and there was a female one-two for Elizabeth Tremlett (22:01) and Esme Lynock (23:34)

 

Brianne Secondary Schools Cross Country League - Event 3 - Ammanford Recreation Ground (Tuesday 22nd November)

Following on from rounds 1 & 2 in Whitland and Carmarthen, the third Brianne Secondary Schools Cross Country League was held for pupils in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 at Ammanford Recreation Ground (Ysgol Dyffryn Aman) on Tuesday 22nd November.

Seven local schools - Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, Ammanford; Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth, Cefneithin, Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, Llandeilo; Ysgol Bro Myrddin, Carmarthen; Queen Elizabeth School, Carmarthen, Llandovery College and hosts Ysgol Dyffryn Taf were in action.

British Athletics Cross Challenge Series - Event 3 - Sefton Park, Liverpool (Saturday 26th November)

In a short turn around, the third leg of the 2022 / 2023 British Athletics Cross Challenge Series was on Saturday 26th November featuring the best cross country athletes from across the whole of the United Kingdom.

The event returned to Milton Keynes just two weeks ago before heading to Sefton Park in Liverpool over the weekend.

Running a distance of 5.5km, Iwan Thomas (17:54) crossed in seventh position and was followed by Finley Bruce (18:58) and Steffan Davies (19:49) in the under 17 men's age group. Liam Edwards (22:01) and Huw Davies (42:32) competed in the under 20 men and senior men's races respectively.

Perth, Scotland will be the location for the penultimate event in mid-January.

 

Indoor Combined Events U16 & U18 Pentathlon International 2022 - Emirates Arena, Glasgow (Saturday 26th November)

Fifteen Welsh school pupils (along with team managers and team coaches) travelled up to Scotland to represent the Welsh Schools Athletic Association at the 2022 Indoor Combined Events U16 & U18 Pentathlon International, held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Saturday 26th November.

The Welsh Schools squad were up against the top runners, jumpers and throwers from English Schools, Irish Schools and hosts Scottish Schools.

Both age groups, with four athletes per country taking part, competed in a pentathlon with 60m Hurdles, Shot Put, 200m / High Jump, Long Jump and 800m making up the day's events.

Congratulations to Jessica Lee from Ysgol Dyffryn Taf in Whitland, selected for the second year in a row at this event and won her fourth Welsh vest in four months. She helped the Welsh Schools under 18 girls win bronze medals in the team event and placed second individually to round off a great weekend trip North.

Broad Haven Pudding Run - Broad Haven (Sunday 27th November)

Steffan Bridger was 2nd overall in a time of 34:48.

 

Ras Y Mast 6.5 mile & Junior Race - Llanybydder (Sunday 27th November)

In the junior under 16 event held prior to the senior 6.5 mile, Liam Regan (10:15) and Leah Regan (12:18) were the first male and female finishers at Llanybydder.
