November and December Results Round-Up (17th November - 1st December)

The final week of November and the first day of December saw club athletes attend cross country, road and indoor athletics in Carmarthenshire and further afield. Below are the results from events held between the period of November 17th and December 1st at Llandeilo, Liverpool, Llanybydder, Llanelli, Bristol and Cardiff.

Llandeilo Festival of Senses Santa 5K  - Llandeilo (Sunday 17th November)

As part of the Llandeilo Festival of Senses weekend in the town centre, Sunday morning was the Santa 5K & junior dash run.

Pictured taking part are Dafydd Williams, Dylan Williams, Alys Tremlett, Liz Tremlett.

 

 

British Athletics Cross Challenge Series - Fixture 2 - Sefton Park, Liverpool (Saturday 23rd November)

In a short turn around, the second leg of the 2024-2025 British Athletics Cross Challenge Series was on Saturday 23rd November.

The event headed to Sefton Park in Liverpool just two weeks after the Cardiff Cross Challenge in Llandaff Fields.

Running a distance of 3km, endurance athletes Sali Owen placed 18th in the under 15 girls' race, with a finish time of 11:41.

Glasgow and Leeds will be the locations for the next set of fixtures in January and February 2025.

 

 

Ras Y Mast - Llanybydder, Ceredigion (Sunday 24th November)

At Ras Y Mast, which was over a distance of 6.5 miles, Huw Davies was the eighth master 50 male home in a time of 58:23.

 

Year 7 and 8 Carmarthenshire/Dyfed Secondary Schools Indoor Sportshall Athletics - Llanelli Leisure Centre (Tuesday 26th November)

Llanelli Leisure Centre hosted the second Carmarthenshire/Dyfed Secondary schools indoor sportshall athletics events.
Year 7 and 8 Sprinters, throwers and jumpers were competing in the 2 lap and 4 lap sprint on the track.
On the field, the standing long jump, standing triple jump, speed bounce, vertical jump and shot put was contested.
The schools that attended on Tuesday were: Strade, Bryngwyn, Coedcae, St John Lloyd, St Michaels, Glan-Y-Môr, Bro Myrddin, Bro Dinefwr, Dyffryn Aman, Bro Pedr and QE High.

John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League - Fixture 3 - Blaise Castle, Bristol (Saturday 30th November) 

Following the opening rounds locally in Pembrey and at Cardiff in November, the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League reached the half way mark in the season, with round three of five taking place at Blaise Castle in Bristol on Saturday 30th November.

Carmarthen Harriers members and their parents made the longest journey of the league season to South West England to compete, ahead of the Christmas break.

A big Well Done to all runners and thanks to all those who also made the journey to support in Bristol.

The John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League will visit Margam Park in Port Talbot in the New Year on Saturday 8th February 2024, before the season concludes at Brecon in March.

 

 

Welsh Athletics Junior Indoor Open U13, U15 & U17 incorporating West Wales 200m, 300m & 400m Regional Championships - National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff (Sunday 1st December)

A brand-new indoor athletics season for junior athletes got underway on Sunday 1st December with Day 1 of the Welsh Athletics Junior Indoor Open (Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups) at the National Indoor Athletics Centre at Cyncoed Campus, Cardiff.

200m, 300m, 400m, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put and para field events took centre stage on the opening day.

Following the same format as in previous years, the Welsh Athletics Junior Indoor Open fixtures incorporates the West Wales* Regional Championships (*200m to 1500m for West Wales only, as all other events will be included in the region's indoor championships at Swansea on 11th January & 15th February).

Seven Carmarthen Harriers members travelled to the Welsh Capital to run the one lap 200m along with long jump and high jump, with five medals won.

Day 2 of the Welsh Athletics Junior Indoor Open (U13, U15, U17) will take place at NIAC in early January on Sunday 5th January. Events that day will feature 60m and 60m Hurdles, 800m, 600m Walk and 1500m distance events as well as the Long Jump, Shot Put and Pole Vault in the field.
