News from the Brianne Secondary Schools Cross Country League & Club Results

The end of October and the beginning of November has seen club and school events held at various locations across South and North Wales, including the Brianne Secondary Schools Cross Country League, Marathon Eryri, Tenby 10K, Welsh Athletics & Welsh Schools Indoor Combined Events Championships and Richard Burton 10K over the past fortnight.

Brianne Secondary Schools Cross Country League - Ammanford Recreation Ground (Thursday 26th October)

Following the opening round in Whitland last month, the second Brianne Secondary Schools Cross Country League event for years 7 to 10 took place in the East of the county.

Pupils at six local schools - Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth, Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, Ysgol Bro Myrddin, Queen Elizabeth School, Ysgol Dyffryn Taf and hosts Ysgol Dyffryn Aman participated at Ammanford Recreation Ground.

The first five in each school year were:

Year 7 Girls: 1. Manon Phillips (Bro Myrddin), 2. Paige-lily Williams (Dyffryn Aman), 3. Erin James (Bro Dinefwr), 4. Megan Evans (Bro Myrddin), 5. Angelica Thomas (Dyffryn Taf)

Year 8 Girls: 1. Maisie Foster (Dyffryn Taf), 2. Lowri Morgan (Bro Dinefwr), 3. Beca Elfyn (Bro Myrddin), 4. Nuala Coney (Dyffryn Taf), 5. Brooke Lindsey (Dyffryn Aman)

Ysgol Bro Myrddin in Carmarthen is the venue for the third fixture on Tuesday 21st November.

The start of the New Year will see a busy schedule with the Area Cross Country Championships following on to the Dyfed Schools Cross Country Championships and Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships, as well as Indoor Sportshall Athletics.

Marathon Eryri 2023 - Snowdonia (Saturday 28th October)

Two athletes travelled to North Wales to compete at the picturesque Marathon Eryri in Snowdonia.

David Cole and Huw Davies completed the course in 2:49:37 and 4:03:53 respectively.

 

Tenby 10K Road Race - Tenby (Sunday 29th October)

On the road, Joshua Barnett was the first junior male home at the Tenby 10K road race in a time of 37:58.

 

Welsh Athletics & Welsh Schools U14, U16 & U18 Joint Indoor Combined Events Championships (Sunday 5th November)

The 2023-2024 indoor athletics season began with the Welsh Athletics and Welsh Schools Joint Indoor Combined Events Championships at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.

Events on the track were the 60m Hurdles, 200m and 800m whilst on the field, Long Jump, High Jump and Shot Put were the trio of disciplines contested to make up the Quadrathlon or Pentathlon.

A total of six Carmarthen Harriers members entered the indoor season opener at Cyncoed Campus and there were a number of fantastic performances and new personal bests.

By finishing second, there was a silver medal and international selection for Beatrice Morgan in the under 16 girls' age group, whilst Tygan Davies and James Bentley were fifth and sixth respectively in their categories. Under 14 athletes Menna Fielder-Hobbs, Paige-lily Williams and Marleigh Mackie also experienced the combined events championships for the first time.

Marleigh Mackie (Queen Elizabeth High School) - U14 / 862 points:

60m Hurdles (11.09); Long Jump (4.07m); Shot (6.09m); 800m (3:04.35)

James Bentley (Ysgol Dyffryn Aman) - U16 / 2380 points:

60m Hurdles (10.25); 200m (24.49); Long Jump (4.61m); Shot (9.03m); 800m (2:16.81)

Tygan Davies (Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth) - U18 / 2656 points:

60m Hurdles (10.08); 200m (24.59); Long Jump (5.47m); Shot (9.97m); 800m (2:14.60)

 

 

Richard Burton 10K Kevin Webber Mini Miler Fun Run - Cwmavon (Sunday 5th November)

Held prior to the Richard Burton 10K was the Kevin Webber Mini Miler Fun Run on Sunday at Cwmavon in Port Talbot.

One of the participants completing the one mile was Tayla Williams.
