New Year's Eve welcomed back popular festive events in 2025, followed by the start of the early 2026 January competitions held indoors and on the cross country course in Cardiff.

New Year's Eve 10 Miler & 10K & Llandysul New Year's Eve 5K Run - Llandeilo / Llandysul (Tuesday 31st December)
On New Year's Eve, two annual events returned to West Wales with the 10 Miler and 10K at Tregib Sport Facilities and the Llandysul 5K.
8 Carmarthen Harriers runners were taking part in the final event of the year.
At Llandeilo, regular attendees Jake Lynock (1:01:14), Joshua Barnett (1:12:49) and Huw Davies (1:15:09) completed the longest distance.
Meanwhile, Anastasia Eggleston-Stoker (49:26), Esme Lynock (49:26) and Liz Davies (1:00:16) participated over 10K.
In the North of the county at Llandysul, there was a 1-2 finish for Paige-lily Williams and Tayla Williams in the under13 girls’ age group with 23:02 and 28:31 respectively.
Welsh Athletics U13, U15 & U17 Junior Indoor Open incorporating West Wales 600m Walk, 800m & 1500m regional championships - Day 2 - National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff (Sunday 5th January)
The 2026 Indoor Athletics opener in Wales saw Day 2 of the Welsh Athletics Junior Indoor Open (Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups) take place at the National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff on Sunday 11th January.
Five Carmarthen Harriers athletes made the journey to Cyncoed Campus.
Three medals returned home in the West Wales regional indoor championships for endurance.
Under 15 teammates, Alex Ladd (2:17:16) and Tomos Cai Davies (4:29.73) lined up in the 800m and 1500m.
Over the same distance, Haf Thomas and Alys Tremlett recorded new personal in the 4-lap discipline. Their finishing times were 2:49.54 and 3:00.46 respectively.
In the 60m sprint, Asha Findlay was victorious in his heat by stopping the clock on 8.83.



Welsh Athletics U13, U15 & U20 Junior Indoor Championships 2026 - National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff (17th & 18th January)
Carmarthen Harriers runners and throwers travelled to the Welsh Capital to compete at the first indoor championship of the season.
Welsh Athletics hosted its annual under 13, under 15 and under 20 indoor track and field championships at Cyncoed Campus in Cardiff.
6 medals were won in the endurance and throws disciplines.

England Athletics Senior & U20 Indoor Combined Events Championships - EIS Sheffield (Sunday 21st January)
it was a successful day for the Fitzpatrick sister at the England Indoor Race Walking Championships in Sheffield.
Cerys finished second in the under 15 mixed category with a new personal best of 5:29.10.
In the under 13 mixed race over 1000m, Gwen was also a silver medallist with a time of 6:37.20.
Welsh Athletics Cross Country Championships 2026 - Llandaff Fields, Cardiff (Saturday 24th January)
For the first time since 2012, Cardiff staged the National Championships as the 121st Welsh Athletics Cross Country Championships moved to Llandaff Fields.
The latest edition and saw over 1,100 entries.
Continuing their partnership with Welsh Athletics, four primary school races in conjunction with Urdd Gobaith Cymru were also held at the beginning of the programme for boys and girls in years 3,4,5 and 6.
Carmarthen Harriers' combined under 17 and 20 men won gold in the team event, while the combined under 17 and 20 women were second.
