Latest Event Results Round-Up (31st January - 15th February)

It's been a busy few weeks of competition for junior and senior athletes in the final week of January and the first half of February... from club representation in West Wales to national Welsh Athletics and international competition.

The events in Wales and further afield across the UK this month have included the West Wales Indoor Athletics Championships, BUCS Cross Country, John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League, Celtic Home Nations Cross Country and Tata Steel Llanelli 10K.

Below are the Carmarthen Harriers club results from events held between January 31st and February 15th at Swansea, Loughborough, Cardiff, Chepstow, Llanelli, Armagh and Sheffield.

British Universities and Colleges Cross Country Championships - Blackweir Fields, Cardiff (Saturday 1st February)

The British Universities & Colleges Cross Country Championships took place in Loughborough at the end of January.

Representing Cardiff University, Steffan Davies competed in the men's short course.

 

Welsh Athletics Senior, U17 & Para Indoor Championships 2026 (7th - 8th February)

Three weeks on from the junior indoor championships, Welsh Athletics hosted its national indoor track and field championships for seniors and under 17 at Cyncoed Campus in Cardiff Met.

Celtic Home Nations Cross Country - Parliament Hill, London (Saturday 7th February)

Iwan Thomas (U20), Sam Griffiths (U20), Jessica Hyland (U23) and Sali Owen (U17) represented Wales at the Celtic Home Nations Cross Country, incorporated into the British Athletics Cross Challenge Series at Parliament Hill, London on Saturday. They were joined by Nansi Griffiths, entered in the under 17 women's event.

Teams from England, Scotland, North of England, Midlands, South of England and Eastern Counties were involved.

 

 

John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League - Fixture 4 - Chepstow Racecourse (Saturday 7th February)

Club cross country racing returned for Carmarthenshire athletes at the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League on Saturday 7th February.

After previous fixtures at Margam, Cardiff and Bristol so far this campaign, the penultimate event took place back in South East Wales at a muddy Chepstow Racecourse.

Tata Steel Llanelli Half Marathon 2026 (Sunday 8th February)

Front Runner Events staged its annual road running event in West Wales as the Tata Steel Llanelli Half Marathon & 10K event returned to Carmarthenshire's coastline.

Sion Rowlands placed in the top 50 of the 10K distance.

 

Sale Harriers Indoor Winter Series (Sunday 8th February)

Tayla Williams travelled to Sale for the 1000m Walk included in the programme, coming away with a new personal best.

 

Armagh 5K (Thursday 12th February)

A Welsh team was selected for the annual Armagh 5K in Ireland. Under 20 member Iwan Thomas joined the men's team of four on the roads.

 

West Wales Indoor Regional Athletics Championships 2025 - Swansea University Indoor Athletics Track (Saturday 31st January and Saturday 14th February)

The 2026 West Wales Indoor Athletics Championships at Swansea University Indoor Athletics Track was staged over two days in the space of a fortnight.

After the 200m to 1500m distances were contested in Cardiff in December and January, the remaining events were held in the region - 60m, 60m Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault, High Jump and Shot Put for all age groups from U11 to Seniors.

Among the entries were 24 Carmarthen Harriers athletes.

15 regional medals were won and plenty of personal bests and season bests were also achieved.

British Universities (BUCS) Indoor Athletics Championships 2026 - English Institute of Sport, Sheffield (Sunday 15th February)

A fortnight after the cross country championships, attention for university students moved to Sheffield and the British Universities Indoor Athletics Championships over three-days of competition.

Jessica Hyland, representing Swansea University reached the final of the 3000m completing 15-laps of the track.

 

Welsh Athletics Winter Long Throws Championships - Ron Jones Stadium, Aberdare (Saturday 14th February)

The Welsh Athletics Winter Long Throws Championships made its first outing at the Ron Jones Stadium in Aberdare. Among the disciplines on offer were javelin, hammer and discus.
