Late July & Early August Results Round-Up: Including Welsh Athletics Junior Championships (23rd July - 11th August)

In the latest round-up, Carmarthen Harriers athletes have enjoyed great results across track and field events over the past fortnight in South Wales and South West England.

As another summer track and field season starts to conclude for 2024 shortly, the main highlights saw Welsh Athletics host its annual U13, U17 & U20 age group championships with a change of venue this year - Swansea University.

Below are the Carmarthen Harriers club results from events held between July 23rd and August 11th at Aberdare, Yeovil, Poppit Sands, Exeter, Loughborough, Myddfai and Swansea.

British Milers Club 800m, 1500m, 3000m - Ron Jones Stadium, Aberdare (Tuesday 23rd July)

Ron Jones Stadium in Aberdare hosted British Milers Club 800m, 1500m and 3000m graded races.

Macsen Toogood and Sali Owen were competing in the two-lap race, crossing in 2:01.93 and 2:22.36 respectively.

Participating in heats 2 and 4 of the 1500m were Tom Bridger (4:51.89) and Lowri Morgan (5:21.77).

Over seven-and-a-half laps, Jessica Hyland completed the 3000m in 10:26.34.

 

Yeovil Olympiads AC Summer Open 3 - Yeovil (Thursday 25th July)

In South West England at Yeovil Olympiads AC open meeting, Paige-lily Williams ran 5:43.19 in the 1500m before clearing 1.15m in the high jump.

 

British Milers Club Regional Race - Exeter (Tuesday 30th July)

A week after Aberdare, Jessica Hyland clocked 4:44.90 in the British Milers Club 1500m in South West England at Exeter, her second fastest time over the distance.

Incorporating the Exeter Harriers Evening Open Meeting, Tayla Williams recorded 2:35.99 (600m) and 2.22m (Long Jump) while sister Paige-lily Williams also competed in two events - 2:45.70 (800m) and 13.94m (javelin)

 

Poppit Sands 5K Summer Series - Poppit Sands (Tuesday 30th July)

The second of three Poppit Sands 5K took place on Tuesday 30th July. In the 2K for juniors, Alex Ladd made it back-to-back victories with 8:52.

 

British Milers Club Regional Race - Loughborough University (Wednesday 7th August)

Jessica Hyland clocked a similar time to Exeter of 4:44.81 in the British Milers Club 1500m at Loughborough University on Wednesday 7th August.

Ras Myddfai (Friday 9th August)

The recent weekend began on the Friday evening with one of Carmarthenshire's annual event, Ras Myddfai.

Dafydd Williams and Davy Richards were first and sixth respectively in the children's 2 mile.

Jake Lynock and Huw Davies were participating in the senior 8 mile.

Welsh Athletics Senior U13, U17 & U20 Track & Field Championships 2024 - Swansea University Athletics Track (10th August - 11th August)

Six weeks after the senior championships took place in the Welsh capital, Welsh Athletics hosted its second Welsh championships of the track and field season, this time for the remaining under 13 and under 17 and under 20 age groups.

Held in West Wales at Swansea University Sports Campus over two-days, a total of twenty-six athletes made the short journey up the M4 to compete in one of the final competitions of this campaign.

Giving all abilities competition opportunities, it also featured athletes in the para events which were incorporated. There was several new personal and season bests along with seventeen medals won by club athletes to add to the ten picked up in Cardiff.
