This month, Welsh Athletics and England Athletics hosted their opening indoor championships of the year. In Cardiff, the Senior, U17 & Para Indoor Championships took place on the first of two weekends, while in Sheffield the 1000m Race Walk produced a British Champion.
The four areas in the Dyfed District - Pembrokeshire, Llanelli, Brianne and Ceredigion - hosted their area cross country championships during three midweek days leading on to the Dyfed Championships last Tuesday.
Elsewhere, the Welsh Athletics Cross Country Championships and the second Cardiff Met Non Thomas New Year Open was held over consecutive days in West and South Wales.

England Athletics Senior & U20 Indoor Combined Events Championships - EIS Sheffield (Sunday 21st January)
Cerys Fitzpatrick travelled to EIS in Sheffield to compete in the 1000m Walk, as part of the England Athletics Senior & U20 Indoor Combined Events Championships.
In the under 15 girls' age group, she came away as British Champion at the South Yorkshire venue, with a 21-second new personal best of 5:48.71.
Dyfed Schools Cross Country Championships - Haverfordwest Racecourse (Tuesday 21st January)
The Dyfed Secondary Schools & Colleges Cross Country Championships returned to Haverfordwest Racecourse on Tuesday 21st January.
The four areas within the District - Brianne, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Llanelli - held area events the previous week at Ammanford, Haverfordwest, Llangrannog and Pembrey.
School pupils, teachers and coaches travelled West to Pembrokeshire for one of the biggest events in the Dyfed schools’ athletics calendar each year.
Races began with the year 7 pupils taking part for the first time, through to sixth form participants.
A Dyfed schools’ team will be selected for the Welsh Schools National Championships next month, which takes place at Penlan Arena in Brecon. They will be joined by teams from Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff & Vale, Eryri, Glamorgan Valleys, North East Wales, Powys and South East Wales.
This will be followed by the Welsh Schools Sportshall Athletics Finals at Cwmbran at the beginning of March.
Welsh Athletics Cross Country Championships 2025 - Pembrey Country Park, Llanelli (Saturday 25th January)
Carmarthenshire's local park Pembrey Country Park staged the National Championships for the first time since 2022 on Saturday 25th January, as the 120th Welsh Athletics Cross Country Championships moved to an earlier date this year.
Held previously at Singleton Park in Swansea and Penlan Arena in Brecon, the championships moved back to West Wales for the latest edition and saw over 1100 entries.
Continuing their partnership with Welsh Athletics, two primary school races in conjunction with Urdd Gobaith Cymru were also held at the beginning of the programme for boys and girls in years 3,4,5 and 6.
Carmarthen Harriers enjoyed a successful day in their local park, with team medals won in the under 13 girls (gold), under 13 boys (silver), under 15 girls (gold) and under 17 men (silver) categories. Several youngsters also represented their primary schools in the Urdd races with medals to all finishers.

Cardiff Met Non Thomas Speed Grand Prix - National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff (Sunday 26th January)
Following the Endurance meeting a fortnight ago, Cardiff Metropolitan University organised its second Non Thomas Open of the month at National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff on Sunday 26th January - focussing on sprints and the last remaining field events.
Over the flat 60m, Cole Brydson and Kaylan Brydson clocked 7.34 and 7.68 respectively before going on to compete in the 200m shortly after.
In the field, Ben Bowen recorded a best of 9.07m in round two in the men's shot put.
