First month of the Track & Field season, along with Road Running action (12th April - 27th April Round-Up)

In the latest round-up, the first month of the outdoor track & field season continued with the introduction of more league and open meetings.

Five weeks after the SIAB Schools Cross Country international, five club athletes were selected for international representation at the TCS London Mini Marathon, which was held 24 hours before the London Marathon.

Elsewhere, there were several other track and road running races across the country and abroad- at venues such as Northampton, Newport, Lot et Garrone, Yeovil, London, Aberdare, Bury and Yate.

Below are the Carmarthen Harriers club results from events held between April 12th and 27th.

England Athletics Walks Championships - Moulton College, Northampton (Saturday 12th April)

It was successful day for the Fitzpatrick sisters at the England Athletics 10000m Walk Championships, held at Moulton College, Northampton on Saturday 12th April.

Gwen Fitzpatrick claimed silver in the under 13 girls' 1k walk with 7:26.28 whilst Cerys Fitzpatrick won bronze in the under 15 girls age group, completing the distance of 2km in 13:18.51.

 

 

ABP Newport Marathon 2025 - Newport City Centre (Sunday 13th April)

Sunday 13th April saw Matt Blue complete the ABP Newport Marathon 2025 in a time of 3:04.50 at Newport City Centre. Meanwhile, there was a finish of 46:28 for Luke Owen in the 10K and 6:41 for Haf Thomas in the Junior Future Challengers.

 

Lot et Garrone (Saturday 19th April)

Even on holidays abroad such as in the South of France, athletes continued to train and run over the Easter holidays.

Here's Tomos Cai Davies, who competed in a 1km track race in 'Lot et Garrone' on Saturday, winning with a time of 2:59.

 

 

Yeovil Olympiads AC Spring Open Meeting - Yeovil (Saturday 19th April & Monday 21st April)

Paige-lily Williams and Tayla Williams made the Easter bank holiday weekend trip down to Somerset for the Yeovil Olympiads AC Spring Open Meeting, with the competition taking place over two days.

Day 1 Results - Saturday: 1500m Steeplechase (6:11.60); 800m (3:32.42); Shot (4.79m)

Day 2 Results - Monday: 100m (15.16); 300m (50.56); Javelin (14.25m / 9.92m)

TCS London Mini Marathon 2025 - London, England (Saturday 26th April)

Five athletes from Carmarthen Harriers represented Wales on the road at the annual TCS London Mini Marathon on Saturday morning, 26th April.

The Mini Marathon for those aged 11 to 17 hosted a series of championship age group races covering the last 2.6km of the London Marathon route.

It provided an opportunity for athletes from Wales to test themselves against the best in Great Britain & Northern Ireland, competing against the other Celtic nations, English regions and athletes from 33 London boroughs.

The finishing line was situated on The Mall outside Buckingham Palace in the heart of the English Capital.

In their respective under 13 age group races, Manon Phillips (9:33) was selected for the second year in succession whilst debutant Alex Ladd was a part of the boys' squad who won the overall team event.

Making a return to the international stage were year 10 duo Sali Owen (9:24) and Nansi Griffiths (9:45), who ran in the under 15 girls’ category.

Moving into the oldest age group - the boys' under 17's - Joshua Barnett (8:26) was the fifth member to complete the 2025 mini marathon.

Endurance coach Carol Jones was also involved as one of Wales' team managers.

 

 

Saturday South Wales Throws League - Aberdare (Saturday 26th April)

Three of the senior throwers began their campaign at the South Wales Throws League at Ron Jones Stadium in Aberdare.

Under 20 athlete Ffion Mabey competed in the discus (30.66m) and hammer (36.43m), whilst Ben Bowen began in the shot put circle (10.36m) and followed by 21.85m in the hammer.

In the seated throws, Jac Sheehan threw 7.91m and 21.16m in the shot and discus respectively.

 

 

Steeplechase, Walks & Endurance Festival - Bury (Saturday 26th April)

Four members travelled to Bury St Edmunds on Saturday 26th April for an event incorporating the Steeplechase, Walks & Endurance Festival.

The two athletes entered in the under 13 girls' 1000m walk were Gwen Fitzpatrick (7:19.83) and Tayla Williams (7:25.25).

Cerys Fitzpatrick was also competing in the walk discipline - this time over 3000m - finishing in 20:41.23.

Running with older athletes, Paige-lily Williams was in action in the 1500m steeplechase for the second time in five days, clocking 6:16.29.

 

 

UK Youth Development League Midland League - Outdoor Sports Complex, Yate (Sunday 28th April)

On the track in South West England, the opening fixture of the UK Youth Development League - South/West A division was held at Outdoor Sports Complex in Yate for under 17 and under 20 athletes on Sunday 27th April.

Six athletes were competing as part of the West Wales Composite Team in this opening  fixture in the season ahead of upcoming competitions at Cardiff and Swansea over the next two and a half months.
