Early May Bank Holiday Results - from Carmarthen to Manchester (3rd - 5th May)

The early May bank holiday weekend - Saturday 3rd May, Sunday 4th April and Monday 5th May saw Carmarthen Harriers' sprinters, endurance runners, throwers and jumpers compete at weekend events in Carmarthenshire and further afield.

Annual events at this time of year made a return including the Cardiff 5K - Race for Victory, British & Universities Outdoor Athletics Championships, Carmarthen Mayor's 5K and Junior Fun Run.

Below are the Carmarthen Harriers club results from events held between May 3rd and 5th at Llanberis, Cardiff, Manchester, Carmarthen and Gloucester.

Welsh U18 Mountain Running Championships 2025 - Moel Eillio, Llanberis (Saturday 3rd May)

Amelia Williams and Nansi Griffiths made the journey North to Llanberis on Saturday. They were competing at the Welsh U18 Mountain running championships trials, finishing first and fifth at Moel Eillio.

 

 

BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships 2025 - SportCity, Manchester (Saturday 3rd May - Monday 5th May)

The 3-day BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships headed to SportCity in Manchester where four athletes were representing their universities.

Jessica Hyland, representing Swansea University went in the 1500m on Saturday morning. She clocked 4:54.72 after completing three-and-three-quarter laps of the track.

Sophia Reid-Thomas (Bath Spa) was in action in the 60m sprint heats on Saturday morning, stopping the clock in 13.88.

Meanwhile out on the field on Day 2, Lili Church (Cardiff Metropolitan University) and Jessica Lee (Loughborough University) both qualified for the women's high jump and long jump finals respectively. On the third day, Church cleared a best of 1.65m while Lee jumped 5.77m.

 

Cardiff 5K - Race for Victory 2025 - Whitchurch, Cardiff (Sunday 4th May)

The Cardiff 5K - Race For Victory 2025 incorporating the Welsh 5K Road Racing Championships was back in its usual May slot on Sunday evening, 4th May on the streets of Whitchurch. There were some great times recorded by the nine athletes in the Welsh Capital!

Carmarthen Mayor's 5K & Junior Fun Run Races - Carmarthen Town Centre (Monday 5th May)

On Bank Holiday Monday (5th May), the Carmarthen Mayor's Fun Run Races returned to the town centre in its 42nd year.

It was organised by Noelwyn Daniel from Healthy Life Activities on behalf of Carmarthen Town Council. Main sponsors were McDonalds and GD Harries along with support from twenty other local organisations.

The annual race was established by Councillor Peter Hughes-Griffiths, in partnership with Carmarthen Harriers Club President Dr Hedydd Davies.

More than 830 runners of all ages entered the 2025 edition. The day started with the 5K fun run where runners ran along the town's main roads a total of three times before the grandstand finish up at Guildhall Square.

This was followed by a series of junior races, featuring experienced club athletes to those making their first steps in running.

It began with the boys and girls in years 1 & 2 followed by years 3 & 4, years 5 and 6 and secondary school years 7 & 8 completing two laps of the course.

The final event saw a category for the nursery and reception children over one lap.

Carmarthen Harriers in the Junior Races (Year 4 to Year 8):

It was great to see so many club vests on show across the junior races at the event on Monday and all performing well. We hope you had a great time!

Junior results were not recorded outside the first three therefore we are unable to mention every athlete in this report, but well done to all those who participated and collected their finishers medal.

 

 

Brewer Memorial Games- Blackbridge Jubilee Athletics Track (Monday 5th May)

Cheltenham & District Harriers organised its annual Brewer Memorial Games in Gloucester on Bank Holiday Monday with Carmarthen's three athletes coming away with a haul of personal and season bests.

Tayla Williams - 100m (18.73), 800m (3:37.94) & Long Jump (2.23m)

Paige-Lily Williams - 200m (32.72), 800m (2:41.48) & Shot (6.13m)
