The Dyfed Schools Glyn Davies Memorial Trophy in 2022 has been awarded to Jessica Lee (Ysgol Dyffryn Taf/Carmarthen Harriers).
Jessica has enjoyed a very successful and busy season across track and field and indoor athletics competitions, representing the Dyfed Schools district as well as Welsh Schools at international level.
In the summer 2022, Jessica won both the Welsh schools under 17 300m and long jump titles at Cardiff.
A few weeks later, she was victorious at the SIAB Schools U17 Track & Field International in Belfast, coming away with a new personal best and a Welsh Record in the long jump of 6.06m. The UK School National Games was held in Loughborough in early September with Lee coming out on top in the long jump, as well as picking up silver in the 4 x 100m relay at both these events.
This was followed by gold at the recent Welsh Athletics/Welsh Schools Indoor Combined Events Championships - U18 indoor pentathlon championship (3388 points) which confirmed her selection for the SIAB Schools Indoor Combined Events Championships in Glasgow for the second year in succession.
Her other achievements this year away from school competitions includes becoming British champion twice in England Athletics U17 championships (long jump and heptathlon), Welsh junior and senior champion and competing for the Welsh Athletics under 20 team at the international in Swansea an age group young.
Dyfed Schools Athletic Association in November 2015 decided to set up an annual Glyn Davies award in memory of Glyn who had been treasurer of Dyfed Schools AA for 16 years.
He was remembered for his support of Dyfed Schools teams at the Welsh schools cross country and athletics championships and in particular standing at the entrance to the Carmarthen Athletics Track collecting the gate money at Dyfed competitions.
The Glyn Davies Award is awarded annually to the Dyfed School athlete who has given the greatest contribution to Dyfed schools in that year.
The award was presented earlier this week by Dr Hedydd Davies, Dyfed Schools AA Secretary.
