Christmas Message / Neges Y Nadolig
I would like to thank all our Officers, Committee members, supporters, and friends for
their contribution to the Club in 2024.
In 2024 Carmarthen Harriers members: -
- 4 members competed for the Welsh schools in the SIAB schools cross country
international in Dublin. - 5 members competed for the Welsh schools in the SIAB schools athletics
international in Carmarthen. - 3 members competed for Wales in the London mini marathon.
Carmarthen Harriers have been involved in many important events in 2024. At
Pembrey Country Park , the Welsh road relay championships, Gwent cross country
league match and West Wales cross country championships were held.
At our home track in Carmarthen the Harriers hosted a West Wales junior league
match and organised a Carmarthen Throws competition.
Carmarthen Harriers was formed in April 1948 and celebrated its 75th anniversary in
April 2023. I published in February 2023 a book called Carmarthen Harriers
memories/Atgofion Harriers Caerfyrddin 1948-2023 with contributions from British
and Irish Lions and former Carmarthen Harriers members Sir Gareth Edwards, Roy
Bergiers and Brynmor Williams. Lynn Davies the 1964 Olympic long jump champion
was also one of the 80 contributors.
On 20 July 2024 Welsh Schools hosted the 2024 SIAB athletics international in
Carmarthen. This is an under 17 match between Welsh schools, English schools, Irish
Schools and Scottish schools. Carmarthenshire County Council and its staff had spent
a lot of money, time and effort in the lead up to the event. It was rather a wet day for
the event, but it went very well with the Welsh schools team winning 20 medals.
Carmarthen Harriers members Beatrice Morgan, Ellimay Williams, Dolly Evans,
Summer Evans and William Harries were members of the Welsh schools team.
Many thanks once again to all the coaches and team managers for their excellent work
during the year for the Carmarthen and District Harriers Athletics Club.
I would like to extend to all our members a Happy Christmas and a successful New
Year.
Thank you all once again for your support in 2024 and we look forward to another
good year in 2025.
