Since February 2020, work has been ongoing by Carmarthenshire County Council and contractors South Wales Sport Ltd in resurfacing and improving elements of the Carmarthen Leisure Centre Athletics Track in Johnstown (home of Carmarthen & District Harriers Athletics Club).
As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the work was suspended in March but the good news is that work re-started in mid-June and has continued since.
The changes includes a brand-new eight-lane track surface, a great new look and changes to the track venue layout itself.
Alongside refurbishment work continuing on the athletics track, car park and tennis courts, Carmarthen Leisure Centre was also been converted into a temporary field hospital to help Hywel Dda University Health Board deal with its response to coronavirus in Carmarthenshire. However, as announced by the County Council on 21st August, the Carmarthen site as well as Llanelli Leisure Centre have been partly or fully decommissioned and the leisure centres have returned to its original use.
This is an exiting time for the club, county of Carmarthenshire and West Wales, and we would like to thank parents, athletes and the public for their co-operation during the weeks ahead when the facility will be out of action.
Over the next few weeks, we'll bring you regular updates, images and videos of the progress across the Website, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
In due course, we'll be ready to share this new sporting facility in Carmarthenshire with you.
