25/09/2007. Anwen Rees has left the club to join Swansea. Anwen remained a member of the club throughout her University years at Loughborough, but has now made the choice to move clubs. She leaves the club having set a new club record of 58.15 over 400H, got a GB vest and supported Carmarthen throughout, winning numerous medals for the Club. I am sure all in the Club wish her the best and hope she get more GB vests. One of the nicest women on the circuit with loads of time for younger athletes, she will also be missed by the club in competition. We will all hope she continues to develop her undoubted talent. Good luck, Anwen, and thanks for all you have done for the Harriers.

The Club has advised me that they will pay £50 for the winner of the Banner design competiton-a generous offer, rather than free Club membership. So all of you out there try and create someting that reflects the club, its successes and the area we are based in. All enteries by 31March please. It should include the Club Name and any graphics you feel represent the Club and a by-line"like say the above "Wales Most Successful club, but does not need to be based on that. The Logo should include Club Colours and the Coracle logo.

The Site needs a banner which reflects what, the you, the Athletes, feel about the club. I need a .jpg image which I can use as an .inc file on every page. So design one and send it in. . There must be loads of you out there in the club who have the talent to design a really interesting banner- so please do it. Email to charles . ASAP.

13/03/2007 Site Being re-designed.. give me a few days please, but news will be updated. It will not be flash, but just aimed to keep you in touch. Hedydd Davies,MBE, had the vision to encourage the developement of the site a 4 years ago- and it is, mainly thanks to his efforts, one of the most Club News active site's on the web. A few graphics will be added, but the point of the site is news- and ease of use. Any comments/suggestions please email me. It is a quietish time, as you know I run another site-athleticsresults.co.uk, but have devoted this week to re-organising the Harriers site- so email in any ideas before it is too late.

09/03/2007Looks like Glasgow is in with a good chance of hosting 2014 Commonwealth Games. Take a few seconds out of your time, click on this link to the Glasgow bid site and support them. All of the 12-14 years training now could be there- and cheaper to go to Glasgow to watch them than overseas. So support the bid , please for the sake of the Kids- a domestic competiton will see larger squads than an overseas competion for Welsh Athletes- I would assume.

25/02/2007 Great- Britain U20 combined events international.Caryl Granville,s debut in a G.B. vest at the weekend ended with her under 20 ladies team winning against France and Spain. Caryl competed in the new state of the art Lee Valley indoor stadium in N.London,She aquired 3 personal best performances in the 5 event discipline competition and finished 3rd best in the Great Britain team which cannot be bad for a first outing at this level.Caryl,s first P.B. came in the 60m hurdles which took her under 9secs. which is faster than anyone in Wales by a big margin and elevates her high in Britain, the second P.B. came in what is considered her weakest event the shot putt but with coach Richard Wyer at Carmarthen has improved considerably in this event. Her overall points tally of 3,736 is also a lifetime best and she had the fastest 800m time of the day though not a P.B. but credit again must go to her middle distance trainer Delyth Brown, the combined events is a mixture of track and field events which requires coaching from a range of trainers, just think what this young athlete could do and others like her with proper indoor winter facilities at Carmarthen. She got to keep winning cup for performance of the day.

4/02/2007 News just in- Caryl Granville has been selected for the GB U20 team to compete at the Combined Events International on 25 Feb. Well done to her, her Coach Dorrien Thomas on a really great piece of news.

02/07/2007elitementor.com is live and working.(new site by Katharine Merry, Darren Campbell and Linford Christie).I signed and asked a question "How often should you train at 100% of speed?" Response within two hours "The key I believe is to make sure you are fully recovered and hydrated before doing a 100% speed session. Because of the stresses the body goes through whilst running flat out you should always feel your best to receive the best results. Darren".I am impressed with the site, and my trial question shows it is working. This is a fantastic iniative giving all athletes and sportspeople the chance to ask questions of three of the best GB athletes. Well worth having a look at and registering.

30/11/2006 30/11/2006 Young Carmarthen Harriers had a real bonus when Dwayne Stoddart appeared at the track on Tuesday this week. Having a short break in West Wales he had asked if he could use the track for training- obviously no problem. A bundle of enthusiasm for the sport, he spent most of his training time working with some of the young hurdlers showing drills etc. They enjoyed and learnt something from a guy who competes at the top level- about hurdling, warm up drills, preparation for a race. An amazing man and I hope he gets his GB vest soon. The sport needs people like him, prepared to work with the kids whilst still pursuing their dreams. Thanks Dwayne- and all the Young athletes you coached on Tuesday say the same.

20/11/2006 Winter Fixture List updated. Entry forms for Welsh Senior and Junior Championships available- click on links. Please do enter. U17 note you may enter the Senior Champs ( max 3 events and Senior Shot will be used), the U17 and U20 Champs. U15/U13 are not allowed to compete out of age in keeping with UKA rules. Entry forms should be sent in asap and as many as possible enter the Seniors as U17- there was a chance it was going to be restricted to U20 and Seniors, so please enter to support the canvassing made on your behalf to ensure U17's were allowed to compete- as they were in the Outdoor Senior Champs last summer. The few Harriers who competed in the Senior Welsh Open Outdoor Chams medalled-lets keep this going and make sure that AAW continue to allow the U17 to compete in the Welsh Senior Open Champs.(Open means Open to all Athletes -not just Welsh- so a great chance to compete hopefully against Athletes from other Nations at a Senior level- you've nothing to lose.)

31/10/2006 Good to see a young athlete setting up a site- Gareth Sutcliffe, a Young Welsh Hurdler, has a site at Welsh Junior Athletics. He should be applauded for what he is trying to create- a site where Young athletes can blog and chat on a forum. As he says "Well like other athletes, people will keep in touch through MSN or Mobiles, but through this web site people can meet on the forum (Under Construction) and keep up with Welsh Athletics news". A good idea, and well in tune with my thinking - most athletes enjoy the sport and meeting new people Sutcliffe says"During the season, as I think many of you would agree, I have met some great people from all over Wales". Click on it, early days, but encourage him. It is not restricted to Welsh- join in and support this- young athletes competing and chatting is what we all want to see. Most are their for fun-and that's what we want- the kids to enjoy the sport. Well done Gareth.(The site is new, so still be developing- just encourage him.

26/10/2006 It was announced at the AGM that a number of key individuals from the West Region were honoured with Meritorious Awards for services to Athletics in Wales. Ossie Morgan and Dorien Thomas - (Coaching) were amongst a group of well deserved nominations announced as receiving the award this year.
It is a mark of the appreciation that is felt within the sport of the major contribution made by a large number of volunteers over many years. We thank them for their work and look forward to seeing others being similarly rewarded in coming years.

22/08/2006 Welsh Junior League Cup Final at Brecon on 20 August 2006

22/08/2006 West Wales News 20

22/08/2006 I have just picked up a rumours that the Welsh Schools and Welsh National U17 and below age groups will be merged into one competition. Ok on the face of it save some money -many medallists are the same. But there is a difference. The Schools takes top 2 from each region, whereas any Welsh Athlete can enter the National Champs. As I am told under then new structure this will change and the new Welsh Schools and National Championships will only have the top two from the regions, plus any athlete who makes a standard. This is rubbish , it means that kids interested in the Sport- but maybe not that good-at the moment- will be excluded. So the aim of competiting at a Welsh Championship will disappear- and so will the athletes. Many second division, for want of a better word, compete at the National Champs and enjoy it- this is now being taken away. As I gather this is the idea of the Welsh Sports Council- who seem obsessed with controlling Welsh Sport rather than their role, as I though it, as funders. What this means is that if you have a region within Wales with 3 good athletes, only 2 will be able to compete- the 3rd will have to rely on a wild card. And it takes away all the kids who just want to compete, however well they do. Seems like the Power of Ten really does mean that- no-one interested in others than the top Ten. What load of 4X and the engineers of this should leave sport- the obviously have no understanding of Sport and in particular athletics. Where would Anwen Rees be now under this great system- I will have to check with her, but not sure she showed great promise as a U15- now running for GB.

18/06/2006 Welsh Senior Champs report- Carmarthen win 11 medals

18/06/2006 The Senior Welsh Champs was a successful meeting for not just the older athletes, but the several U17 athletes who competed. Caryl Granville ran a fanastic controlled 400H to get overall Bronze (Welsh Silver). Kayleigh Brown seemed to enjoy her first Steeplecase winning bronze. Emily Mitchell had a busy day with heats and finals in both 100m and 200m, ending up 5th in 200 and 6th in 100m- which in the Welsh Champs section was a Bronze in 200m and Silver in 100m. To put in context Caryl was running against Anwen Rees(Carmarthen)- a GB international and Emily against 2 Senior Women ranked 1 and 6 in the current GB rankings over 100m. So they all did really well. Caryl is now the clear leader in current UK ranks for U17W 400H.

16/06/2006 Club members Anwen Rees, BruceTasker, Alison Siggery compete this w/e at Welsh Seniors. Also entered are U17 Kayleigh Brown, Caryl Granville and Emily Mitchell. Good luck to all of them.

16/06/2006 First Claim Clubs- a document. Sort of interesting, but does not really get of the root of athletes obligations to a club and vice versa. Can an Athlete compete in a Championship that clashes with a club Match ?. Can a club refuse pemrission for an Athlete to compete in a combined regional Team which does no clash with a Club competiton. If so what legal contract exists between athlete and a club - the club does not pay them ( the first basis of a legal contract) the opposite, athlete' s pay to compete. More interesting questions rather than what club does what in events. Just my view, not the Harriers comittee.

My personal view is that the club should pay, but others feel that in the interests of conformity a small fee should be charged. So I will pay, but I do believe the club should recognise the athletes rather than having them pay- but the club does pay for Plates etc at the annual dinner, so theit is a limit.Bear in mind the costs that these athletes endure to get recognised. And what about all the previous Welsh Internationals- are we going to ignore them or ask them to Pay? 13/01/06 RSS News feed added. Subscibe and any updates will be delivered to your desktop. Any Feedreader will do-see link to discover more. But basically if you subscribe to the feed any changes to the site will be automatically displayed- no more looking and seeing no new news. The feed link is http://www.carmarthenharriers.co.uk/chfeed.xml .You need to add this link to a feedreader. The news stream in HTML can be seen here. It is simpler than it sounds- click here for a guide. I have trialled this on my athletics site for a few months and it works- if you have a problem email me rss. The feed Reader I use is Feed Reader. It has a load of pre-compiled feeds- you can delete these if you want and just add the Harriers link. If you want to add my athletics results feed this the link . Then you will have two athletics feeds. It is the future of the Internet and I think we will be the first club to have a RSS feed- I have one and the BBC use it so you can subscribe to them as well.

7/12/2005 My site at www.athleticsresults.co.uk is one of the first athletics sites in the world to use RSS. Click here to see what it means, but if the trial works, I will add a feed to this site. In essence all changes will be delivered to your desktop if you subscribe to a feed reader. Means you will be notified of changes rather than having to click onto the site. You can subscribe to any RSS feed- it is really rather clever. Let me know what you think. No more emails, just a stream of info to your desktop. See how it works- the latest West wales news has been added- add www.athletics-results.co.uk/arnews.xml to feedreader and you will get the feed. Pretty simple.

20/11/2005 As some know I did a podcast(voice recording) at the Combined events in Cardiff today. If you want to hear it is on www.athleticsresults.co.uk It will improve as we develop the concept.

20/11/0205 Full Results WSAA/WAA Combined Events. Only a few in the Open meeting Emily Mitchell ran 8.00 for the 60m, Carol Thomas 8.75, 200m Emily 26.45, Holly Roderick 27.10 and Carol Thomas 29.11 Mainly Harriers in attendance- why no-one from Cardiff etc bothered to come. Show why the Harriers are so successful- we will travel and compete. Caryll Granville won the Combined Events with a solid performance, PB on the hurdles, Hannah Pick 2nd and Catherine Goldsmith made the team to Scotland for her first Schools vest- well done to her- the 800m must have hurt but she stuck in and got the vital points. Great day for the Harriers who are the bulk of the CE team going to Scotland- I hope we will get a nice picture of all them surrounding Dorrien Thomas , after the teams were announced, who has done so much for Combined Events in West Wales- his reward the group surrounding him at the end. A good day for the Club and Dorrien .
