Ammanford venues prepare to host annual junior & senior events...organised by Amman Valley Harriers Print

Amman Valley Harriers Athletics Club, based in Ammanford are once again bringing two popular events back to the town this June and July. The junior fun run is on Wednesday 5th June whilst the senior 10K race returns to the town's streets on Sunday 14th July.

Amman Valley Harriers Double-Header to return to Ammanford venues this summer

This June and July, the ever popular Ammanford Junior Fun Run and Ammanford 10K road race returns to the streets and track of Ammanford Town Centre, with races open to all ages and abilities from the under 6's up to the veterans!

Following a record number of over 350 participants at last year's staging, the Ammanford Junior Fun Run makes a welcome return this June with an extended invitation being put out to all. It takes place on the evening of Wednesday 5th June at Ammanford Leisure Centre, on the running track behind the swimming pool (SA18 2NP)

The fun run is organised by the local running club, Amman Valley Harriers and has seen it develop into a popular event over the last few years in Carmarthenshire with a large turnout from runners, whatever their ability. Registration for all is on the evening opening an hour before the beginning at 5:30pm with the first race getting underway at 6:30pm. Registration will be found in the middle of the athletics track, with race categories desks clearly signposted to avoid queuing.

There is an entry fee of £2.50 per athlete. There will be medals to ALL finishers with trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Years 1 to 8 additionally.

Year 1 & 2 / Blwyddyn 1 a 2 - 2 Laps (800m)

Year 3 & 4 / Blwyddyn 3 a 4 - 2 Laps (800m)

Year 5 & 6 / Blwyddyn 5 a 6 - 2 Laps (800m)

Year 7 & 8 / Blwyddyn 7 a 8 - 2 Laps (800m)

 

Once again this year, organisers are pleased to have the event sponsors on board which is Noelwyn and Sharon Daniel at Healthy Life Activities who will also provide the medals and race commentary. Healthy Life Activities offers triathlon competition for all abilities and for all ages with a series of events available across the county including Carmarthen, Llanelli, Ammanford and Burry Port. Healthy Life Activities also offer plenty of opportunities for children to participate in events and believe in investing time and effort to ensure as many children take part in their events.

In 2018, a total of 380 youngsters were out running with the winners being Seren Bowen (Y Dderwen), Iestyn Rees Jones (Gymraeg Rhydaman), Jessica Norman (Llansteffan), William Coles (Llangadog), Nell Davies (Ffairfach), Macsen Toogood (Teilo Sant), Amy Tucker (St John Lloyd) and Owain Thomas (Dyffryn Aman).

The Ammanford Junior Fun Run is open to anyone from any school or club. We hope to see as many of you as possible in Ammanford on the 5th June for what promises to be a great evening of local fun running! All local schools will have had information and all schools in Carmarthenshire given information ahead of race day.

 

 

 

Then on Sunday 14th July, it's the turn of the seniors who will no doubt come to the rugby club in their numbers, having introduced the West Wales 10K Senior Road Running Championships for the second year in succession.

Entries before the day can be done online in 2019 for the second time. This fantastic race follows the traditional open-road route around Ammanford to Llandybie and the surrounding area.

Registration will be open between 08:30 and 09:30 at Ammanford Rugby Club IF ANY SPACES LEFT, SA18 3AP with the race starting at 10.00am in the morning.

Online entry is just £8 affiliated and £10 unaffiliated plus booking fee. Online entry is now available!

Prize money will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall Male and Female runners. £60, £30 and £15.

Trophies are also available for: Open Male, M40, M50 and M60; Open Female, F35; F45 and F55 as well as the male and female team trophies which is first 3 to count.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded at a presentation in the Rugby Club after the race so all competitors are encouraged to join the presentation and for a post race drink and snack.

This is a Welsh Athletics approved race and results will appear on RunBritain rankings and Power of 10.

In 2019 the West Wales 10K Senior Road Race Championships will again be incorporated into the Ammanford 10K on Sunday 14th July.

In addition for the West Wales medals athletes must have one of the following qualifications:

A - Birth; the athlete having been born in West Wales (Dyfed or West Glamorgan)

B - Residence; a minimum of 9 months continuous residence in West Wales immediately prior to this event.
