Results & Action from the Wales U20's squad as they competed against England U20's at the Indoor International 2016 @ NIAC Cardiff on Sunday 7 February 2016

 

Wales continued to be the destination of choice for Olympic hopefuls to launch their "Road to Rio" campaign as many of the best athletes in the United Kingdom travelled to the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff to compete in the latest meeting, following on from last weekend's Welsh Senior Indoor Championships

Wales Under 20's took on England Under 20's in the Indoor International which featured several European and Welsh Champions. The strongest possible Welsh team at this level was selected for the match after impressing at previous competitions.

The Harriers were delighted to announce that two of its talented members were chosen to represent the country - Lauryn Davey and Carys Jones. Both did themselves and the club proud against the very best athletics has to offer. Well done to both!

- Lauryn in the U20 women's triple jump - 11.02m PB

- Carys in the U20 women's pole vault - 3.35m

After 26 events and another unmissable day in the Welsh Capital - including a few club relay competitions & Welsh 3000m Championships which were incorporated into the fixture - England won the match with 204 points and Wales in second place with 104 points. The English athletes were dominated throughout, Wales' first positions came from the likes of Hannah Brier in the 60m, Emily Wright in the Long Jump & Wales U20 4x200m Relay team (George Thomas, Rhodri Williams, Ben Paris, Kristian Jones) in a very close race!

With a star-studded line up across both track and field events, the Road to Rio definitely started here...

NIAC in Cardiff - venue set up for the 2016 Welsh Championships & International Indoor in January/February

As the indoor period over the past few weeks in Cardiff have come to an end, (Welsh Junior Championships, Welsh Senior Championships & Indoor International) well done to the hundreds of athletes, coaches, volunteers & staff that have made the competitions a big success!
