Yr hyn y mae angen i chi ei wybod cyn diwrnod y ras i athletwyr a cefnogwyr...

The second John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League of the 2018-19 season returns to Pembrey Country Park, near Llanelli on Saturday 10th November 2018. The campaign got underway a few weeks back, when the league made an appearance in conjunction with the British Athletics Cardiff Cross Challenge with good numbers attending. Following its success over two previous occasions with plenty of positive feedback, the upcoming match is hosted by Carmarthen & District Harriers Athletics Club in conjunction with Carmarthenshire County Council. The club are grateful for their support before and on race day.

For many, this will be the second visit to Pembrey in a matter of months, with the Welsh Athletics Road Relays Championships having taken place around the new Closed Cycling Circuit in the park less than two months ago in mid-September.

Moving from previous years at Singleton Park, Swansea, the park here will also see the Welsh Athletics Cross Country Championships arrive in February 2019.

The league - formed in 1963 has continued across South Wales and the South West of England every year since then and attracts the best cross country runners from Wales and England. It is a league that has taken place for many years and it is a good way of making new friends from other clubs.

If you would like to take part, entry is on the day, via your club team manager. Make sure that you report no later than 1 hour before your race with the entry fee on the day £1 for juniors and £4 for seniors.

Many Gwent League cross country matches hosted by Carmarthen Harriers had been held in the past on the United Counties Showground fields in Nantyci.

Pembrey Country Park are now used to hosting big events by now having already had some running and cycling championships there. One of the main highlights over the past year was the Tour of Britain cycling event which got its first stage underway in the middle of the park. Watched on by thousands of people, it made its way out of Carmarthenshire towards Newport, the final location on the opening day.

The cross country course has been used in the last 4 years by the Llanelli Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships annually in January, as well as the Welsh Athletics Road Relays which we mentioned above. The course has excellent views wherever you go so you will not miss any of the action.

The Course is a mixture of flat parkland, forest trails, man-made hills and a little bit of sand! It has been designed to be accessible for all runners of all speeds and abilities.

Pembrey Country Park is one of Wales' top visitor attractions providing a unique blend of coast and countryside. Set inside 500 acres of woodland, and alongside eight miles of golden sands, it has everything to provide a perfect family day out, weekend camping break or a relaxing holiday in idyllic surroundings.

Toilets & Refreshments will be available with points marked on the course map. Location of tents are also marked.

PLEASE NOTE that there is an entry charge of £2 for every car that enters the park. You should follow the signs to the designated car parks. These are clearly signed in the Park and caters for over 1,000 cars.

PLAN YOUR DAY AND ARRIVAL AHEAD and give yourself plenty of time. All competitors are encouraged to walk the course to familiarise themselves and to identify any hazards.

The park welcomes dogs but please remember it's the owner's responsibility to keep them under control. New dog orders state that failure to comply will result in a fixed penalty notice.

15mph speed limit on all park roads. 5mph on campsite. Please use the rubbish bins provided, or take them with you.

Some of Pembrey Country Park's Attractions / Rhai o Atyniadau Parc Pembrey

Cefn Sidan Beach - Great for fishing, walking or just relaxing. Seemingly endless miles of golden sandy, "bucket and space" beach, right on the doorstep of Pembrey Country Park. Frequented by land yachters, sailboarders, kitesurfers...

Forest & Parkland - Acres of beautiful forest walks and trails with an abundance of wildlife and plants, take advantage of this natural dune forest at any time of the year! In contrast the mostly flat, open, adjoining parkland has plenty of room for cycling, walking and family activities.

Conservation Ponds & Hides - A quiet few moments here can prove worthwhile at any time of the year. Don't forget your camera!

WW1 and WW2 Remains - During WWI and II Pembrey Country Park was home to a munitions factory. Today some of the remains still stand and these can be found throughout the park and woodlands. Research into identifying some of these remains is ongoing.

Historical Relics - Cefn Sidan is the final resting place to number of shipwrecks dating back to 1668. Evidence of the vast volume of sea traffic which passed along our shores can be seen protruding from its sands towards the northern end of the beach. A walk of around 10 miles would have to be undertaken to see them all. Anchors displayed at the main beach entrance are medallions of Cefn Sidan's maritime history.

Other Nearby Attractions include... Burry Port Harbour, Ffos Las Racecourse, Ffwrnes Theatre, Kidwelly Castle, Millenium Coastal Path, Sandy Water Park, Parc Y Scarlets, Pembrey Circuit and Llanelli Shopping Centre.
