For a successive year, Elite Welsh and Club Runners are heading for one of Carmarthenshire's most popular open spaces. Announced as the first leg of the Tour of Britain Cycling event on the 2nd of September where the park got its opportunity to showcase its facilities, Pembrey Country Park near Llanelli will again be delivering and hosting the Welsh Athletics Road Relay Championships 2018 this September.

It is being hailed as a great opportunity to showcase the county's athletic talent against Wales' best. The event provides the chance for both established and up and coming endurance runners in Wales to compete against each other in a competitive team format. Races include a primary school challenge, full junior programme, men's, women's and veteran's races. The event will hope to attract even more competitors this time round.

Over a number of years, Previously it has been held in Llandow and Pontypridd park with a new venue for the last two years when it arrives in West Wales. It will be organised by Welsh Athletics in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council. Gwent League Cross Country League and the Welsh Cross Country Championships are other races that have already been confirmed at Pembrey over the course of the upcoming winter season.

Carmarthen Harriers club: All distance runners and any athlete from the club can take part and get involved in one of the teams in their age group. This is a good chance for newer and experienced athletes to compete in a team format rather than individual as has been the case at other events.

Please ensure that you get in touch with team managers as soon as possible to notify them of your availability or they will be in touch very shortly to get teams together. There will be no coach on this occasion therefore all athletes are asked to make their own way to Pembrey. Anyone with transport issues, let the team managers know and a lift can be sorted.
