What a difference a week makes! 28th June, this event was postponed due to the rain and a week later, it turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year so far - and what a turnout it was!

The fun run, organised by the local club Amman Valley Harriers, attracted a new record number of nearly 350 children (338) from across Carmarthenshire and beyond.

Once again in 2017, the Ammanford Junior Fun Run was kindly sponsored by Noelwyn Daniel at Healthy Life Activities, who provided all the medals and trophies along with race commentary.

The races were open to young runners of all ages. The evening at 6.30pm started with those in reception and under who were helped round the 1 lap course with their parents/friends/guardians, with smiles all round when they got to collect their medal.

For everyone else, they went round twice (800m) and due to the large numbers, each age group was split into two with boys and girls. Other category age groups included years 1 & 2, years 3 & 4, years 5 & 6 plus a secondary schools event for years 7 & 8.

Around 20 Morrison Comprehensive School in Swansea were some of the attendees who had travelled up to join in in the Year 7 & 8 race, collecting three trophies at the end.

Medals were awarded to everyone who finished with trophies to the top 3 in each age group. Whatever their ability, the evening was open to all to get involved in running and enjoy the race day atmosphere with friends and family.

The event organisers would like to thank all who turned out for the annual fun run and those who volunteered their time to help out on Wednesday.
