Carmarthen Harriers remember Aldershot, Franham & District teenagers.

Last Week, the sport of athletics heard some sad and shocked news, where two teenage Aldershot, Farnham and District athletes died after being hit by a car in Aldershot on Tuesday evening. The pair were out running when they were involved with a black Ford Focus on Queens Avenue shortly after 7.10pm.
Athletes at events across the country over the weekend (Nov12-13) paid tribute to the two teenagers with black ribbons and moments of silence, including at the Hampshire Cross Country League match in Bournemouth and the British Athletics Cross Challenge fixture in Milton Keynes.
At the Carmarthen Harriers Athletics Track on Tuesday Evening (15th November) the older endurance group (Year 7 +) put their training on hold, formed a circle in the middle of the track and fell silent for a minute to remember the two talented runners Lucy Pygott and Stacey Burrows.

Aldershot, Farnham and District paid tribute to the athletes in a statement last week saying, “Stacey and Lucy, were highly valued members of our club and played a huge role in the recent success of AFD including last weekend’s National Cross Country Relays where the club took 5 out of the 10 titles awarded. The club is absolutely devastated to lose such amazing, talented young athletes. Our thoughts and prayers are with the two families who are being supported by the police family liaison team.
“As a club we are humbled by the many messages of support that have been received from across the World which further demonstrates the wealth of feeling and respect for these two young ladies within the athletic community.”
