Saturday: Gwent Cross Country League Under 11,13,15,17/20,Seniors continues in Mid Wales...

Harriers Bro Myrddin Boys Dominate the Second Gwent League Fixture of the Season on Saturday

The Under 11 and Under 13 boys dominated a day of racing at in Brecon with 6 top 5 places in two of the days races.

For the under 13's two Harriers were locked together in a battle of will with a Pembroke athlete for the whole of the 2.4 km race. Finally, in a blanket finish Frank Morgan finished second and Harriers international triathlete, Liam Edwards finished 3rd. Impressively another Bro Myrddin Harrier, Dafydd Jones, finished 4th after working his way steadily through the 80 strong field. This has capped an outstanding few months for Jones as proves himself to be one of the Harriers most improved athletes. The team was then completed by Dafydd Thomas in 31st place and Morgan Lloyd 41st for the boys to extend their lead over Cardiff in the seasons league.

Dyfed dominated this race clearly in front of the rest with district teammates Iori Humphreys winning and Cian Harries finishing strongly in 5th - either side of the 3 Carmarthen in second, third and fourth.

The under 11 boys came close to surpassing their older teammates with Ifan Bowen (Y Dderwen) leading the way but finally finishing second again behind a stronger and older Brecon athlete. However,  in the surprise of the day and in only his second race for the club Jack Thomas (Richmond Park) finished in a fine 4th place. Finding himself in 12th at the halfway point he ran powerfully in the second half to overtake all but the leaders. With Iwan Thomas finishing 5th and Jake Lyncock 45th they should find the team moving up the leader board.

Best of the rest was Phoebe Davis (Bro Dinefwr) who carried the flag for the under 13 girls and finished in a very good second position beating a very good English athlete into 3rd. In the under 15 boys Tomos Rees (Dyffryn Aman) ran with the leading group for the whole race only losing out on the win in the final sprint and finishing 3rd, behind two North Somerset athletes. Archi Morgan continued his improving form with 12th. Gareth Thompson and Caspar Farquhar completed a good team result with 17th and 41st.

Other top 10 performances included under 11 girl Seren Davies (8th) and under 17 boy Thomas Jones in the top 5. Contributing to the under 11 girls were Bessy Hill (13th) Jessica Lee (30th) and Ella Davis (82nd).

The under 15 girls maintained their team position by finishing close as a team in the first half of a very strong race. The overall finishing positions were Beca Roberts,  26th, Maddie Morgan 31st, Siwan Jones Evans 32nd, Eva Edwards 36th and Gwawr Davies 58th.

In the combined under 17 and 20 boys and girls races, Rhys Davies, William Thompson, Cerys Davies and Grace Page scored some valuable points on a tough course. Finally in the senior's races which saw over 500 adults compete - Louise Jones-Evans led the team home and following behind were Kate Lynock, Lisa Forest, Gill Edwards and Natalie Johnson. Huw Davies represented the club in the men's at the top end of the field.
