Carmarthenshire Primary Schools Sportshall - Wednesday 02 November: Athletau Dan Do Ysgolion Cynradd Sir Gar - Dydd Mercher 02 Tachwedd.

Following on from the Years 7 and 8 secondary schools sportshall competition a fortnight ago, over twenty primary schools across Carmarthenshire & Ceredigion attended and took part in this latest Dyfed athletics event held at Carmarthen Leisure Centre, and making good use of the excellent facilities in Johnstown. Once again, the meeting wsa arranged by Hedydd Davies, chairman of Carmarthen Harriers.

The event saw an excellent turn out from schools including from Ysgol Aberaeron who had travelled down to compete. In total there were over 300 children ranging from Years 4, 5 and 6 and there was plenty of noise made from them as they cheered on their friends from the sidelines. Events included 1 lap sprint, 2 laps and the 4 x 1 lap relay on the track, while on the field there was the vertical jump, long jump, triple jump and the shot putt. 62 track heats, 8 track finals and 8 field events were all completed within 180 minutes.

It was a great morning of sporting activities with plenty of local running talent from the county out on show and the organisers thank everyone who contributed to the meeting including school teachers, officials from Welsh Athletics and volunteers from QE High and Bro Myrddin comp.

The New Year will see sportshall athletics returning back to the older athletes in Years 9 and 10 at Carmarthen in mid-January.
