8/05/08 Carmarthen Harrier Garth Loughran is one of two welsh athletes selected to compete for the GB junior (under 20) team in the international match in Loughborough on Sunday 18 May 2008.Garth competes in the javelin event

6/5/08 Three Carmarthen Harriers athletes competed in the BMC races at Millfield on Monday 5 May 2008

All three recorded personal bests by considerable amounts. Dewi Griffiths (U20) set a new Carmarthen Harriers record of 8.26.86 in the 3000m.Alaw Beynon Thomas (U20) ran 4.40.58 for the 1500m and Angharad Davies (U17) also set a personal best of 4.45.52 for the same event .

21//2008 Carmarthen Harriers have been awarded for the fourth year in succession the George Crump MBE Memorial Trophy as the top junior team in the 2007/2008 Gwent League cross country season.40 clubs from all over South Wales and the West of England compete in the Gwent League and is a great honour for Carmarthen to win this trophy once again. The team managers Joan Goldsmith and Hedydd Davies had the support of all the young athletes who travelled long distances to compete particularly when the matches were held in Bristol and Bath

On Wednesday 23 April the Dyfed secondary school relays competition are being held at the Carmarthen Athletics Track. The first event is at 4.30pm

Next Saturday Carmarthen Harrier Alaw Beynon Thomas will be competing for Wales in the under 20 Celtic Mountain Running Championship in Northern Ireland

Also on Saturday 26 April the first Louise Arthur League of the match of the season will be held at the Carmarthen Athletics Track and the first event is at 11.30am.All Carmarthen Harriers team members are asked to report by 11am

Last Sunday Carmarthen Harriers came a close second to Swansea Harriers in the first Welsh Junior League (west division) of the season held at the magnificent Swansea Athletics track. This year Swansea Harriers with their excellent indoor and outdoor training facilities should do well in all the athletics competitions.

16//04/08 Carmarthen Tesco Bag packing.

An excellent sum of £2391 was collected at the Carmarthen Tesco store last weekend.Tesco will also be giving Carmarthen and District Harriers Athletics Club £478. A total of £2869 has therefore been raised which will be used for the benefit of all members of Carmarthen Harriers.Once again sincere thanks to all who contributed to a very hard but successful weekend.There will be another bag packing at the Carmarthen Tesco later in the year

Two Carmarthenshire school athletes won gold medals in the under 13 boys championships

Tony Lewis (Bryngwyn) won the gold medal in the vertical jump with a leap of 71cm.This performance equaled his own Welsh record. Thomas Walters (St Michaels) also won a gold medal in the standing long jump. His performance of 2.54cm equaled his own Welsh record

14/4/082008 London mini marathon

Four Carmarthen Harriers members competed for the Welsh schools team in this year’s London mini marathon event. Dewi Griffiths (Tre-gib) was third in the under 18 three mile race (14.42) and Adam Bitchell (Penweddig) eighth (14.58) in the same race. Angharad Davies (Llandovery College) was 37th in the under 18 girls race (18.45) and Rhys Granville (Strade) 45th in the under 13 boys event

14/04/2008 Carmarthen Harriers commence their 2008 athletics season with the first match Welsh Junior League match of the season at the Swansea University track at Swansea on Sunday 20 April. The Harriers coach leaves Lammas Street Carmarthen at 10am

On Tuesday 22 April at 6pm Carmarthen Harriers will be holding an Open sprints competition at the Carmarthen athletics track (75m for years 4 and 5) and 100m for years 6 and 7. The competitions are open to all

The Dyfed secondary schools relays competition organised by Carmarthen Harriers will be held at the Carmarthen athletics track at 4.30pm on Wednesday 23 April. The events are 4x 100m relay, 4x 200m relay and 800m individual events

Last weekend Carmarthen Harriers members were involved in a bag packing weekend at the Carmarthen Tesco. A substantial amount of money was raised for the local club. The club also collected over 1500 votes for their Norwich Union Community Sports fund Initiative

Sincere thanks to Tesco for allowing Carmarthen Harriers to hold their fund raising event at the Carmarthen Store and for their assistance with the project throughout the weekend

31/3/08World Junior Cross country championships.Carmarthen Harrier Dewi Griffiths was a member of the six strong GB and NI junior tam competing in the under 20 world cross country championships in Hollyrood Park Edinburgh

In a field of 108 competitors Dewi finished 67th (fourth GB counter).He was the ninth European competitor to finish and the GB and NI team came ninth. Sixteen year old Dewi has another two years of competition in this age group.

Three Carmarthen Harriers athletes competed for the Welsh schools team in the schools international cross country match in Perth.Nicky Morrell (Glan y Mor) was 21st, Aneura Phillips (Preseli) 27th and Angharad Davies (Llandovery College) 28th.Positions of other Dyfed Schools athletes were as follows

on Sunday 30 March 2008.
The world cross country championships are being held in Hollyrood Park Edinburgh this weekend.70 countries will be taking part.Carmarthen Harrier Dewi Griffiths is the only Welsh athlete in the GB and NI team (18 seniors and 12 juniors) Dewi competes in the junior (under 20) championship at 1.30 pm .The event is on BBC Television (BBC1 1-2pm; BBC2 2-3.30pm).On Saturday 29 March Carmarthen Harrier Alaw Beynon-Thomas (U20) is competing in the Home Countries cross country international on the same course in Hollyrood Park Edinburgh.

26/3/08Carmarthen Harriers were allocated 1500 raffle tickets for the Carmarthen AFC Grand Draw on Friday 7 March 2008.Harriers members sold 959 tickets (the tickets cost the Club £400).A copy of the Draw result is available for inspection but it appears that no Harriers member was successful in winning one of the 16 prizes.Many thanks to Beverley Plant who acted as the Raffle coordinator.

21/3/08 Four Carmarthen Harriers members competed for the Welsh schools under 20 cross country team in the cross country match with Ireland in Dublin on Wednesday 19 March.Adam Bitchell (Penweddig) ran an excellent race to win in a time of 22.47.Daniel Worrall (Amman Valley) was 24th with a time of 25.21

In the ladies match the Welsh schools girls team captain Alaw Beynon-Thomas (Strade) was 10th (13.47) and Kayleigh Brown (Tre-gib) 15th (14.18)Also competing for the Welsh schools team were Luke Watson (STP) who finished 9th (23.40) and Michael Kallenburg (Aberteifi) 19th (24.39)

Dewi Griffiths (Tre-gib) was asked by UK athletics to withdraw from the competition in order to prepare for the World junior cross country championships in Edinburgh at the end of March

13/03/2008 Five Carmarthen Harriers members have been chosen to compete for Welsh schools in the international cross country match in Dublin on Wednesday 19 March 2008

13/03/2008 AAA of England and Welsh indoor under 17 combined events championships at Sheffield on Saturday 8 March. Carmarthen Harrier Sophie Pick was third in the Welsh under 17 ladies combined events championship with a score of 2506 points ( 60mH -10.01), long jump (4.00m), high jump (1.44m), shot putt (7.86m) and 800m (2.42.60). She was 24th overall in the competition.

3/3/08 Eighteen year old Carmarthen Harrier Caryl Granville competed for the GB under 23 team in the international match in Paris against France and Spain. She finished 8th with a personal best score of 3799 points. If she had been selected for the under 20 team she would have finished 3rd in that competition.Her performances were 60 metres hurdles (8.87), high jump (1.60m), shot putt (9.62m), long jump (5.68m), 800m (2.16.73). Her shot putt result was a personal best and she equaled her personal best in the hurdles.

2/3/2008 Carmarthen Harriers competed on Saturday in the fifth and final Gwent cross country League match of the season at Blaise Castle Bristol. Carmarthen Harriers won many individual and team awards based on the results of the five matches held this season.

2/3/2008 Four Carmarthen Harriers members competed yesterday(1/3) in the Welsh indoor combined events championships held at the Welsh National indoor athletics centre at Uwic Cardiff.Aled Price won the under 13 title (1487) with Dafydd Adams winning the bronze medal (815).Mathew Davies won a silver medal in the under 15 event (1872) only 30 points behind the winner. Rhiannon Plant (2412) was 6th in the under 15 girls event.

26/2/2008 AAA of England junior indoor athletics championships in Birmingham.Two Carmarthen Harriers members competed last weekend in the junior championships in Birmingham.Came Granville came 4th in the U20 400m (57.59). She was 2nd in her heat (57.66) and 3rd in the semifinal (57.14).Liam Jones was 5th in the U15 800m (2.11.41)

24/02/2008 Carmarthen Harriers had a very successful day at the Welsh cross country championships held on a muddy Singleton Park course at Swansea last Sunday.Carmarthen proved to be most successful Welsh club once again by winning three Welsh team titles and also two members winning individual titles.The Harriers club won the under 13 boys team race, the under 17 mens race and the combined under 17/20 womens race.Dewi Griffiths again had an excellent race to retain his under 17 title with team mate Adam Bitchell second in the same race. He was well supported in this event with Nicky Morrell in 7th place and Geraint Mansfield in 15th position.Alaw Beynon-Thomas had an outstanding performance to win the combined under 17 and under 20 ladies race. Her fellow members Angharad Davies (7th), Aneura Phillips (8th), Megan Thomas (16th) and Kayleigh Brown (17th) helped the Harriers to win the team gold medals.The under 13 boys team all ran well to win the under 13 boys team gold medals Ronan Llyr was 6th, Kyran Roberts 8th, Timmy Jones 10th and Christian Lovatt 11th.The under 13 boys B team were 4th (18 Joshua Watson, 32 James Bryan, 42 Daniel Jones and 45 Nathan Richards)In the under 13 girls team race the Carmarthen Harriers team came 4th (8th Amy Roberts, 17 Kari O’Neill, 27 Carys Mansfield, 28 Alyce Phillips and Lowri Heckler 42).The under 15 boys team also finished 4th (20 Davy Lewis, 22 Luke Parker, 32 Joseph Fisher, 36 Jack Lear and Glen Elsdon 39).Jack Davey was 9th in the under 20 mens race and Jodie Jones 20th in the under 15 girls race.

19/2/2008 Sixteen year old Carmarthen Harrier Dewi Griffiths has been selected for the under 23 Welsh team in the under 23 international 5K road race in Bute Park Cardiff on Sunday 2 March 2008

16/2/2008 Carmarthen Harrier Catrin Lewis won the silver medal last Saturday in the Welsh indoor U17 3000m championship (11.48) at the Welsh National Indoor Athletics Centre at Uwic Cardiff .Brother Davy won a bronze medal in the U15 3000m (10.45)In the recent Gwent Cross Country League match at Brecon Carmarthen Harriers teams won the under 13 boys and under 17 mens events. The under 15 boys team came second and the novice boys and under 13 girls teams third. After four matches Carmarthen Harriers lead in the under 13 boys team event and are second in the under 17 men and third in the novice boys and under 15 boys age groups.Dewi Griffiths leads in the under 17 mens age group with Aneura Phillips second in the Under 17 ladies event. Ronan Llyr and Lloyd Heckler are joint second in the under 13 boys age group. Christian Lovatt is at present third in the novice boys, Nicky Morrell 4th in the under 17 men, Luke Parker 5th in the under 15 boys and Joseff Lewis sixth in the novice boys.The final Gwent cross country League match of the season is at Blaise Castle Bristol on Saturday1 March

Next Sunday 24 February Carmarthen Harriers compete in the Welsh cross country championships in Singleton Park Swansea. The Harriers coach leaves Lammas Street Carmarthen at 10.45 am

15/2/2008 Inter City Indoor Athletics Challenge

Eight Carmarthen Harriers members have been chosen to compete for Cardiff (city representing Wales) in the Inter City Final in Sheffield

Heather Jones and Steven Boyles compete in the 60m hurdles, Caryl Granville in the 400m and Catherine Goldsmith in the high Jump. Josh Madden and Hannah Pick compete for Cardiff in the combined events (60m hurdles, high jump and long jump).Bruce Tasker and Emily Mitchell have both been selected for the 200m leg of Medley relay.

15/1/2008 Carmarthen Harriers initiative has had 212 votes recorded as of 14 February 2008.This qualifies the club to a bronze award (£1000) .Carmarthen Harriers project is at present No.1 in Wales and 5th in UK .The competition runs until 14 September 2008 and our aim is to have at least 2000 votes .In the near future a postal vote will be introduced which will make it easier to vote .Many thanks to you and all your friends who have voted for us so far.If you have not yet voted, please vote now and get all your friends to vote as well

Eight Carmarthen Harriers members have been awarded by UK Athletics special awards for their achievements in the 2007 season.Rheon James (shot, discus and Javelin), Mathew Evans (shot and discus), Danielle Hamer (javelin), Josh Madden (javelin), Garth Loughran (javelin), Dewi Griffiths (3000m), Kueni Igbagiri (long jump) and Caryl Granville (combined events)

The coaches of these athletes will also receive awards.

Norwich Union Initiative

The Carmarthen Harriers project has received 171 votes so far (No 1 in Wales at present).To win £1000 we need 200 votes.To win £12,500 we would probably need 1500 Votes (the closing date for votes is 14 September 2008).In the near future Norwich Union will be introducing a postal vote and all the local primary schools will be supporting the project.Please vote if you have not already done so and get all your friends to vote as well

4/2/2008 Athletics Indoor International

Ten Carmarthen Harriers members competed for Wales in the indoor athletics matches at the Welsh National Indoor Athletics Centre at UWIC Cardiff last Sunday

In the under 16 Celtic Cup Rheon James (Bro Myrddin) won the shot putt event with a throw of 13.85m.Jonathan Gardiner, also of Bro Myrddin came third (12.63m).Sadie Flint (Glan y Mor ) was also third in the shot (9.53m). All three athletes are coached by Richard Wyer at Carmarthen. Third Bro Myrddin pupil Ffion Rees finished third in the long jump with a fine performance of 5.09m

In the under 20 international Welsh girls team captain Caryl Granville (Strade) won the 400m in 57.21.She was also a member of the Welsh team who finished third in the 4 x 200m relay (1.43.6). Dafydd Walters (QEH) had a good run to finish third in the 60m hurdles (8.47)

Heather Jones (UWIC) the Welsh senior ladies captain came second in the senior match in the 60m hurdles (8.57) and fellow hurdler Steven Boyles (UWIC) was third (8.65) in the mens event. Owen Jones (Cardiff Univ) was fourth in the triple jump (13.28m)

Next Saturday Carmarthen Harriers compete in the fourth Gwent League cross country match of the season at Brecon. The Harriers coach leaves Lammas Street Carmarthen at 9am

2/02/2008 Four Carmarthen Harriers athletes have been selected to compete for Wales in the Celtic indoor athletics Cup at the Welsh National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff on Sunday 3 February 2008. In the Senior Cup Heather Jones and Steven Boyles compete in the 60m hurdles and Owen Jones in the triple jump. Heather Jones is captain of the Ladies team. In the under 20 match Caryl Granville competes in the 400m and the 4x 200m relay. Caryl is captain of the girls team.

21/01/2008 Three Carmarthen Harriers members competed for Wales in the international match.U20 athletes Dewi Griffiths and Alaw Beynon-Thomas had to compete in the senior race against world cross country champions. Dewi finished 40th (6th U20), which was an excellent result for a 16 year old. Alaw was 87th in the senior ladies race. Nicky Morrell competed for Wales in the U17 race.

21/01/2008 UK U20 combined events championships at Sheffield.Carmarthen Harrier member Caryl Granville finished 5th (3555 points) in the UK indoor pentathlon championships, only 12 points off winning a bronze medal.Her individual results were 60mH (9.08) HJ (1.56) SP (9.10), LJ (5.55) and 800m (2.22.68).

17/01/2008 Celtic Schools Under 16 Indoor athletics international at the Welsh National Indoor Athletics Centre at UWIC on Sunday 3 February 2008.Three Carmarthen Harriers members will compete for the Welsh schools team in the U16 international match against Scotland and Ireland.All three will compete in the shot putt event and all are coached by Richard Wyer at the Carmarthen Athletics Track.Rheon James and Jonathan Gardiner (both Bro Myrddin) will compete in the boys event and Sadie Flint (Glan y Mor) in the girls event .

17/01/2008 2008 Welsh Indoor Junior Athletics Championships

Carmarthen Harriers again did reasonably well in the Welsh junior indoor athletics championships held at the Welsh National Athletics Centre at UWIC Cardiff on 12/13 January

This year Carmarthen Harriers athletes won a total of 25 medals (8 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze).

Brothers Tomas and Jac Edwards won gold medals in the shot putt event. Carmarthen Harriers had the first three in the U17 shot putt event and Dafydd Williams won gold medals in the U17 long and triple jump events

7/1/2008 11 Carmarthen Harriers athletes competed last Sunday in the Open indoor athletics meeting at the Welsh National Indoor Athletics Centre at UWIC Cardiff.Kyran Roberts ran a superb race to win the Welsh U13 1500m championship with a time of 5.07.74.In the same race 11 year old Christian Lovatt narrowly lost out on a bronze medal with a time of 5.14.94. 18/12/2007 2007 Welsh Boys and Girls Clubs Cross country championships.At the recent championships Carmarthen Harriers won four team trophies.Under 11 boys, under 13 boys, under 15 boys and the under 13 girls team races.In the individual races Kari O’Neill (U13), Lloyd Heckler (U13), Aneura Phillips (U17) and Dewi Griffiths (U17) won gold medals. Silver medals were won by Rebecca Lewis (U11), Ronan Llyr (U13) and Luke Parker (U15). Bronze medals were won by Christian Lovatt (U11), Timmy Jones (U13) and Carys Mansfield (U13)

17/12/2007 Gwent Cross country League.

At the recent Gwent cross country League match at Bridgend Carmarthen Harriers teams won the under 11 and under 13 boys team races. The under 15 and under 17 boys teams came 3rd.

After 3 events the under 13 boys team lead and the under 17 boys and under 17 womens team are in third place. In the individual competition Aneura Phillips (under 17 woman) and Dewi Griffiths (under 17 men) are in the lead with Christian Lovatt (under 11 boys) and Lloyd Heckler (under 13 boys) in second place. Ronan Llyr (under 13 boys) is in 4th place.

The next Gwent League cross country match is in Brecon on Saturday 10 February 2008.

16/12/2007 At the Welsh Schools AGM last week Carmarthen Harrier Dewi Griffiths (Tre-gib) was awarded the Denys Gumbley Award for the second year in succession as the best male cross country athlete in 2007.Carmarthen Harriers athletes Caryl Granville (Ysgol y Strade) and Josh Madden (QEH) were runners respectively for the best track athlete (Jack O’Connell Award) and field event athlete (JDB Williams Award) of the year

30/11/2007 UK Liverpool Cross Challenge and European cross country championships trails at Sefton Park Liverpool on Saturday 24 November 2007.Five Carmarthen Harriers members represented Wales in the cross country events at Sefton Park Liverpool. Dewi Griffiths had a superb run to finish 3rd in the under 17 race (17.35), the same time as the second placed athlete Chris O’Hare (Edinburgh) and only 4 seconds behind the winner James Henderson of West Norfolk(17.31). In the same race Adam Bitchell (18.32) was 20th and Nicky Morrell 47th (19.24).Aneura Phillips and Angharad Davies ran in the combined U17 and 20 womens race.Aneura was 23rd (17.02) in the under 17 section and Angharad 34th (17.27)

Just an update on this years Ras Sion Corn Sir Benfro to be held at Llandissilio, Narberth, Pembs on the 16th of December.
We have received over 100 entries to date with another 200 expected all of who are ready to pull on the Santa suit supplied as part of the £10 entrance fee and raise money for the TY Hafan and Pembrokeshire Crossroads Carers Charities.

20/11/2007 Three Carmarthen Harriers won individual titles at the Welsh inter schools cross country championships at Brecon last Saturday.

Lloyd Heckler (QE High School Carmarthen) had a brilliant run to win the U14 boys race. He led for most of the way and for a while he was closely followed by team mate Ronan Llyr (Bro Myrddin). Ronan at the end just missed out on a medal in fourth position.

In the under 18 girls race Angharad Davies (Llandovery College) and Aneura Phillips (Preseli) were in the first three positions for most of the race. In the last 400 metres Angharad sprinted away to win with Aneura in third place .Both athletes have another two years in this age group.

At the AGM of Welsh Athletics at Llanbadarn Fynydd last Saturday Carmarthen Harriers Chairman Hedydd Davies was presented on behalf of Carmarthen and District Harriers Athletics Club with the Wilkinson Sword Trophy for the club winning more gold medals than any other Welsh athletics club in the 2007 Welsh athletics championships

In this year’s Welsh athletics championships Carmarthen Harriers athletes won 28 gold medals 19 silver medals and 20 bronze medals

This is the third year in succession for Carmarthen Harriers to win this prestigious award and it is recognition of the success of the Club and its athletes and a tribute to the hard work put in at the Club by a small group of dedicated volunteers

17/10/2007 At the recent Gwent Cross League match at Singleton Park Swansea Carmarthen Harriers had six teams in the first three places. The under 11 boys team won their event with the under 17 ladies team second. The under 13, under15 and under 17 boys teams all finished in third place. All the Carmarthen Harriers cross country team members will be competing in the West Wales cross country championships in Margam Park Port Talbot on Saturday 3rd November and the second Gwent Cross Country League match in Bath on 11 November.

17/10/207 Welsh Club Award 2007-Carmarthen Harriers Coach Delyth Brown has for the second year won a Welsh Club Award. The award this year is in recognition of the success achieved by her group of endurance, cross country and steeplechase athletes.

Due to the multi-events indoor championships being cancelled next month, the WSAA have decided that in order to alleviate any uncertainty which athletes, coaches and parents have had regarding the Schools' International in Glasgow on Saturday 8th December 2007, the teams have been selected early in order to help all concerned with their winter preparations.

The team was selected according to availability and the Power of 10 ranking lists.

Once details are known the selected team will have a training day at NIAC on Saturday 10th November under the guidance of National Events Coach Mike Guest.
