The Weekend of May 4th-May 5th will see the first round of the Louise Arthur League & Upper Age Group Youth Development League take place at two venues in West Wales for Under 11 to Under 20 athletes, along with the Trail Running Red Kite Challenge near Aberystwyth.

WELSH JUNIOR LEAGUE / LOUISE ARTHUR LEAGUE - HAVERFORDWEST 04.05.19

(Incorporating the Gerald Codd Trophy Match)

The WJL/Louise Arthur League for under 11, under 13 and under 15's will be returning at the home of Pembrokeshire Harriers at the Haverfordwest Sports Centre SA61 2NX on Saturday 4th May 2019 between 11:00am & 6:20pm.

The following clubs will be taking part throughout the 2019 Louise Arthur League season in the West Division: Bridgend AC, Swansea Harriers, Pembrokeshire Harriers, Neath Harriers, Llanelli AAC, Barry & Vale Harriers, Brecon AC, Pontyclun AC and Carmarthen Harriers.

Meanwhile, the following clubs will be taking part throughout the 2019 Louise Arthur League season in the East Division: Aberdare VAAC, Blaenau Gwent AC, Cardiff Archers, Cardiff AAC, Cwmbran Harriers, Hereford & County, Newport Harriers, Rhondda AAC and Rhymney Valley AC.

The Louise Arthur League has gone from strength to strength with around 500 athletes competing in each event in 2018. It's given children of all ages between under 11 and under 15 age groups the opportunity to compete in a friendly league alongside runners from across South Wales. The Louise Arthur League is split into two leagues - the West and East. East matches feature those in the South East area and take place on the same weekends and the West fixtures.

In the Louise Arthur League this year, each club can enter up to four athletes in an event in every age group (relays at the end of each programme)

Under 11 / O Dan 11 (Years 4 & 5): 75m, 150m, 800m, Long Jump, Shot Put, Javelin

Under 13 / O Dan 13 (Years 6 & 7): 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, 1000m Walk, 70/75m Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin

Under 15 / O Dan 15 (Years 8 & 9): 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m, 1500m, 1000m Walk, 75/80m Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault, Hammer, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin

Under 13 and Under 15 athletes can enter in up to any 3 events and the relay (800m or 1500m in one competition day)

Under 11 athletes can enter in up to 3 events and the relay (only 2 track events, 1 field or 2 field events, 1 track)

Brand new in 2019, the Gerald Codd (which has normally taken place in August) will be incorporated into the first Louise Arthur Match at the beginning of May.

As usual, Pembrokeshire Harriers have agreed to host this annual event at their home. The trophy match has been arranged in honour of Gerald Codd who was a great stalwart of athletics in Pembrokeshire for many years.

In August 2018, it was a closely contested competition between six clubs with the host club just coming out on top in the final few events after a great battle between themselves and Swansea Harriers. A trophy will be presented to the top three teams at the end of the day on the 4th.
