Fifteen Welsh Schools Athletes along with eight team managers and coaches made the long journey to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow to compete in the 2018 Indoor Combined Events International twelve days ago.

The Welsh youngsters in the under 16 and under 18 age groups went up against England, Scotland and Ireland in a high standard competition. Competitors on Saturday 3rd November took part in the Pentathlon, totalling five events completed in one competition day.

Dyfed Schools' Beca Roberts, who attends Ysgol Bro Pedr in Lampeter, was selected following the Welsh Schools Combined Events in Cardiff last month. She joined the Afan Nedd Tawe duo along with a strong contingent from Cardiff & Vale Schools. The quartet who made up the under 18 girls' squad came away with third place in their gender and as a result, collected bronze medals.

She threw a best of 7.41m in the shot to open her day's account before clocking her second fastest time of 9.79 over the 60m hurdles. Her best performance of the day came at the half way stage in the long jump pit, jumping a new personal best of 5.07m which was a 10cm improvement.

Towards the latter part of the competition, disciplines four and five saw a clearance of 1.56m in the high jump before finishing off with a time of 2 minutes 36 seconds in the 800m to rank fifth.

The red vests of Wales also secured another set of team bronze medals, in the under 16 boys' category in a much tighter result.

Beca, a member of Carmarthen Harriers is coached by Dorrien Thomas alongside several other talented young athletes. In the upcoming indoor track and field championships, they will hope to add more club and international success over the winter season ahead.
