Carmarthen's Ben Thomas is the latest recipient of the Gerry Batty Memorial Trophy award, given out on an annual basis by the West Wales Regional Athletics Council Committee.

 

While there's quieter few days of events at the moment, time to bring you some information on the Gerry Batty Memorial Award...Ysgol Y Strade pupil is the eleventh winner since it was introduced back in 2007.

Carmarthen's Ben Thomas is the latest recipient of the Gerry Batty Memorial Trophy award, given out on an annual basis by the West Wales Regional Athletics Council Committee.

The trophy is awarded for the most improved junior athlete in West Wales over the period September (2016) to August (2017). The council were impressed with the number and quality of nominations received. This year's award was presented to Ben at the track in Johnstown at one of the club's training sessions in mid July by club President Dr Hedydd Davies.

Since August 2017, Thomas has gone on to succeed in a number of fields with the recent being an appearance at the U18 European Athletics Youth Championships in Hungary last month.
